Morning Audibles

Just a few "housekeeping notes" before we all commence with the days trading...

After careful deliberation, and, OF COURSE, BY COMMITTEE (as that is the only way things should ever be done)... The following RULES CHANGES are to be adopted and implemented immediately at SURVIVOR CAPITAL (after all, it's not good enough that you simply SURVIVE anymore, you are ordered to do it in the prescribed method)...

Changes:

- The use of the phase "nanny nanny boo boo, stick your head in doo doo" will no longer be tolerated when referring to other blogger comments...
- You may NO LONGER tell anyone that their "grandma wears army boots"...
- "I know you are but what am I", as a rebuttal, will be returned to Pee Wee's playhouse (where it belongs)...
- You must all "clean up" your acts, by using GROOMED canines, and references, in your avatar-ology... (Mangy Mutt - you're going to have to clean up your act)...
- 5 times per day, all bloggers must kneel on their carpets and face "Mecca" (the location of the Fusion Capital offices in Manhattan), and utter the prescribed prayers...
- You must IMMEDIATELY switch to COFFEE (from TEA) for your morning beverage... As any association with "tea" whatsover might sketch you out as a teaBAGGER, which is unacceptable...
- Fines for INFRINGEMENTS of any of the above policies will be levied, and paid to the following righteous causes... "The Nancy Pelosi botox fund", "The re-elect Barbara Boxer campaign", and the "West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce" (which needs a new Barney Frank statue because someone disMEMBERED the other one for some peculiar reason - ouch!)...

That should be it for now... But I'll be sure to expedite any further rules changes as they come about... We have a committee, (and ten CZARS), funded by the US taxpayer, that works 24/7 for that sole purpose...

Please enjoy your morning coffee! (oh - but you MUST enjoy it in one of the following prescribed methods)... Any other way will be unacceptable...

Thank you for your continued patronage... THE MANAGEMENT

Cvienne - Speaking of doing things yourself, you remember that Neaderthal nieghbor I mentioned yesterday.

Well the other day, he could not get his car started. So that night I went over to change the oil for him, I guess he heard me and came out, at which point I ran away - Yup with the drain plug in hand.

At any rate, it turns out it was only his battery, but once he got it started it only ran for about 5 minutes before the engine siezed.

I guess the point I am trying to make is sometimes it is best to let others do it themselves instead of trying to help.

Now the poor guy has to take the bus...

You know the most armageddon book I've ever read about markets...it's Conquer the Crash, by a long shot..... lets take a look at some of the 2002 books recs:

1. Get your money in the safest banks (good idea, I think so)
2. Get your cash in the safest cash/cash equivalents (good idea)
3. Despite his views on gold and silver he clearly states BUY THEM ANYWAY,, THEY ARE REAL MONEY! (uh....2002...yeah, good idea)
4. make sure your insurance is held with the safest/most financial sound insurance companies (good idea)
5. don't own stocks (you've avoided the worst decade in US stocks)
6. Don't be in debt (good idea)
7. don't own real estate (I suppose this could be up for debate)
8. Make arrangments to have access to cash in case you need to leave the country (good idea)

Ra,

re p/c, I can't, this is the main problem with it, people could be putting on bullish/bearish spreads and I wouldn't know it

this is why I like to follow the 10 day MA for p/c primarily rather than looking at any given day in isolation, this one has its limits for sure.

re internships..., if y'all don't mind a little solicitation here (and, no, i'm not offering up my offspring to the white slave trade)

the kiddoh interned this summer for the "alternative" paper in dayton, which after one article gave her extra hours WITH pay. for next summer, she's looking for an internship in a slightly larger metropolis (NOT NYC) such as seattle, san francisco, london, so throwing this out for networking, if anyone has leads/suggestions.

after last winter-spring studying in ireland and with some continental travel, she'd love to find something abroad and is networking family contacts in london and stockholm.

she originally intended to major in graphic arts. Decided on creative writing as her stronger suit after the theater department wouldn't let her double major in writing AND theater.

preferably and broadly, looking for any position in which her writing/editing skills would be exercised, so opportunities for experience in communications, publications, scripting, story-boarding, p.r., advertising, etc. pay would be nice, but not critical as she is on full boat scholarship. less debt incurred in summer living is better though.

she is re-considering the possible direction for grad school from creative writing to anthropology/history so, for example, positions in a museum environment would be of interest.

we now return to our regular non-commercial programming.

@McF

To clarify my ARMAGEDDON posture...

It's clear to me that the imbeciles who berate me for the "cautionary" hints I dole out never tactually take the time to examine the TRUE NATURE of why I make the preparations...

It has nothing to do with torches & pitchforks...

It has EVERYTHING to do with COST...

After the Fed fails (which it will), either deflation or inflation will occur (then the next one will occur after the first on)...

Either way COSTS for basic things will be effected (food, energy)...

They will COST MORE than they do relative to what people make today...

When costs go up, people will consume less... Moving in with the family falls under the same category (because the cost is too high to live on your own)...

Less overall consumption means that certain goods will no longer be profitable to bring to market (specialty & variety of foods, for example)...

Americans have NO CONCEPT of what I just said because they have just about everything... But I lived in Italy for a dozen years and let me tell you, on my trips back to the States, I had to carry bact (to Italy) suitcases full of certain things (because there was no market for them in Italy)...

So most of my ARMAGEDDON PREPARATION (as others see it)... Is simply small steps that will allow me as little disruption as possible in lifestyle (& things I enjoy), if things get either too expensive, or scarce on the margin...

Wilmington Trust

I found out about WT in two stages, I'm not some crack balance sheet observer but I know a little bit and how to look for a few red flags that a CFA taught me, a big client of mine called me several months ago asking about looking into buying bonds of theirs...so I took a look and got freaked out (long story), a few months after that, had a disturbing call from my buddy that works at WFC here and told me about them getting crushed by a developer at the beaches here and people bringing deposits to him....lots of deposits, and lots of loans, couple it with what I saw on the balance sheets, and the constant ads they ran all summer basically begging for desposits and it was pretty clear the jig was almost up.

Jennifer said...

I have a pretty good feel for things in my neighborhood though. The good architect seems to keep himself busy -- he is really good though. Just when I think things must be about to get really bad for him, someone comes along in the nick of time and hires him for a full tear down. We border a forest preserve on one side of the neighborhood and have a golf course in the middle, so we were ripe for the tear down frenzy. There were a few builders who went nuts buying up properties and building spec houses (McMansions). Most of them have sold...although the worst of the builders in terms of gross size and excess hasn't sold anything, and two of their four homes went into forclosure. Now they are occupied so I'm not sure exactly how that all worked out.

There are a lot of homes on the market in the neighborhood. Most sellers are still in denial and prices are only about 10-15% off their peak. There is very little demand for the properties listed above $1mm. A couple transfered in from London over the summer, husband works for E&Y, and one divorcee trying to unload her $1.4 mm albatross was devastated when they chose another home. They might have been the only $1mm buyer this year.

I shorted some TOT 55 calls a while back. I need those to fold under next month to cover.

Jennifer said...

In the comments at Mish, someone made the point (obvious, but I hadn't really thought about it yet) that only the best loans are buying down principal, so the remaining loans become riskier almost by definition. Also, if you have a mortgage at 4 or 5%, and you have the cash, maybe "cash in" is a good use of funds since there aren't many investments out there that pay much more than that without big risk. Not sure how the interest rate deduction offsets that though.

@ Jenn

I had to get over my TL addiction... hopefully there is a Gann support group nearby that can help you.

You'll never worry about a broken TL again.

:)

The key for I-Man was internalizing that the market is never linear, hence, the fallacy of imposing a TL on it.

Deep. I like it. But I'm starting to get strange looks from the other people at the library because I'm spending so much time in the stock market section...I don't know much (anything?) about Gann except for the little I've read here.

Stole AA batteries from a flashlight some neighborhood kid lost in my yard the other night so I could make my mouse work again.

Footies Pj's said...

Jennifer - Yes the footies Pj's are great, but VERYdifficult to find in adult size.

My Neaderthal looking neighboor laughs at me when I wear them outside, but that's ok, cuz he is too stupid not to know you shouldn't drive a car without oil. (I do not know how many negatives I put in that sentence, but I am sure it will turn out right)

Anyway, sometime the plastic in the bottom cracks and my big toe sticks out and gets cold.

But I have found it is NOT a good idea to use staples to fix them.

Female Mouse said...

Jennifer - If you use a male mouse that plugs into the back of your computer you do not have to worry about batteries.

The best way to check if it is male is to pick it up and turn it over. If it has a ball it is male.
