Ra,

re: falling three

yeah, that close sort of squashed it didn't it

it looked good around the time you said it though....I hadn't caught it, I think that pattern is pretty rare but it would have been very important

so far that hanging man candle has been solid though....

the person formerly known as love the gold trend said...

I've somehow managed to make almost as much money being short gold in the last 5 weeks as I did being long gold for 22 months. All cash now except for some short ES positions

I'm pretty sure we see lower lows in gold before the end of the year (1400+/-), but I'm not with Neely on the end of the gold bull market. I think we're in for some sort of sideways move for a year or two (if we can call the last 5 weeks the start of a sideways move :)

I do think some commodities have seen their top (iron ore!), but some commodities still have much higher to go eventually.

I've actually "retired" from my job to try a few other projects. I'll try to post more going forward, but once I'm in a meaningful investment position I have found just observing and not saying much to be the best way for me to stay objective as far as staying in or getting out.

Steve, formerly in love with the gold trend.....

Man! That's awesome.....commodities go up the stairs and down the elevator for sure....huge sums of money to be made being short at the right time. Congrats.

I still owe you a round in Houston. I've been working "inside the loop" for the last two years which makes me "cooler" than i was before. IOW, I know the right spots for "rounds."

Keep making the fiat currency. It still spends ok....

Blow the fiat currency!

I lost 5 units on it with Cal vs. Washington last Saturday...

Hmmmm... California GOLDEN BEARS... I guess I picked the wrong week to go against the socioeconomic GODS...

@Andy...

I hear you on Santana Moss... U never kno... I felt the same way with Mike Wallace last night...

You had him going against me... But I had him in my BIGGEST $$ league & he basically won it for me singlehandedly...

It's not that I need a MIRACLE here... A nice 100 yard game & a TD ought to put me pretty close...

I'm not pissed at myself that I started Montario Hardesty & sat Darren Sproles... I figured each of them to have a 7 or 8 point game... Sproles had the TD which is NEVER predictable so that was the difference...

Basically - I'm MORE pissed that Brady tossed 4 picks (that cost me 8 points)... & Atlanta never even tried to get Michael Turner going...

So now I'mm begging for yards here...

That's the way it goes in FF...

Also...

Although my NFL weekend was fairly "break even"...

I pat myself on the back for what I wrote on this blog on Saturday...

Any amateur who was looking at the lines of the afternoon games in the NFL and seeing "LOCK CITY" as far as the eye could see...

I think I successfully "pre-crimed" you away from that notion...

I said NO WAY on the laying points on Chargers - Chiefs, Jets - Raiders... Managed to KEEP the Ravens & Packers... Took the Bucs & Seahawks, & was VERY CAUTIOUS about laying points with the Steelers against the Colts...

It was one of my better efforts against a horrible firing squad of matchups...

TONIGHT is really a toss up...

Betting wise, there's every reason in the world to take the Redskins tonight... Besides the Cowboys being banged up, it's HORRIBLE to lay points with a team that just 'survived' a 1-3 win (where they were favored) the week before...

Plus... 6 out of the last 7 Skins-Dallas matches have gone the way of the VISITOR 'ATS'...

Plus (factoring that in)... The Cowboys have an unreliable kicker...

Plus... The Cowboys have failed to win a home opener at the new stadium since it opened...

COWBOYS have N-O-T-H-I-N-G going for them in this spot...

---

So I guess that means that CV is going to side with the COWBOYS for (1 unit)... :-)

what happened to the "Buffalo Bills are The Laughing Stock"-Idea?

also, much to your, earlier, point--The OL, for the 'Dream Team', is going to get Vick 'killed' (Great Call~)

up here, in, obv., "Eagle-fan Centrale", I've mentioned that to a # of 'fans'--during the 'pre-Season'--not One was willing to coutenance it--the Idea..

CV "NEVER" called the Bills a laughingstock...

I said THAT'S WHAT THE PEOPLE think...

If you'll look back on my 'picks'

- I took them in week 1 vs. KC (whilst saying the Chiefs were THE most overrated team in the NFL this year)

- I took them (& laid the points to the Raiders)... Mostly due to the East Coast time bias...

- I took them last week vs. the Patriots...

I'm 3-0 on 'Bills' calls this year...

---

Dream Team is already getting VICK killed... MUCH more on that later...

Wondering... TONIGHT... if we don't get a game out of Rex Grossman, that prompted THIS outburst at then end of the game... That became LEGEND...

Here's what I've 'said' about the Bills this year...

http://fantasy-sports-nation.blogspot.com/2011/09/fantasy-sports-nation-2011-nfl-picks.html

"Buffalo Bills (0-0) at Kansas City Chiefs (0-0) (1:00 EST)
Line: Chiefs by 5.5

If I said that the Falcons were "one of" my pre-season "overrated" teams... The Chiefs probably take the top spot in this category...
Charlie Weis is now a Florida GATOR, & Todd Haley is an incompetent imbecile... I truly feel sorry for all the fantasy drafters who saw Arian Foster pull up with a hammy (vs. 49ers), & Chris Johnson still in contract negotiations, & therefore moved Jamaal Charles up a few positions...

I mean, if you're 'worried' about Foster or Johnson, just pick up Ben Tate or Javon Ringer in the 14th round... Problem solved... Here, the problem isn't Jamaal Charles... Instead - it's Todd Haley (who can't be confused with Mike Shanahan when it comes to evaluating RB talent... Haley still wants to plattoon Thomas Jones... & let me tell you... not even THAT is the problem... The Chiefs had a powerpuff schedule last year... They got the lead in some games, & were able to pound a running game thus... Look at the games that the Chiefs fell behind (especially where they got pounded by the Ravens in the playoffs)... Nothing, nada, zilch...

Thomas Jones & even Dexter McCluster are more the 3rd down back types (because they're better at pass blocking &/or catching passes on 3rd & long)...

The CHIEFS might not win 7 games this year & therefore are in a horrible spot to be laying points to anyone... I'll take the BILLS here for (4 units)... UPSET ALERT

Bills 41 - Chiefs 7 (correct)

Recap notes: Any questions that Todd Haley is an idiot?... &... Jamaal Charles fantasy owners... OMG! Where are all those points you expected at home vs. the lowly Bills... It doesn't get any easier for you in week 2 (because the Chiefs have to go face Ndomakung Suh in Detroit... I'll be BUYING Jamaal Charles from you going in to your BYE week (for, like, Jerome Harrison or someone)...

BILLS (2 of 3)...

http://fantasy-sports-nation.blogspot.com/2011/09/fantasy-sports-nation-2011-nfl-picks_14.html

"Oakland Raiders at Buffalo Bills (1:00 EDT)
Line: Bills by 4

I have to admit that I 'missed' most of the Raiders - Broncos game last Monday Night because I fell asleep after about the 1st quarter... (Some of it had to do with my celebrations I was drinking while cashing in on 5 units on the Patriots game vs. Dolphins - which we'll recall a little later)...

So I missed all of Darren McFadden's sizzling runs (&, of course, the 63 yarder that Janikowski hit)... I missed the calls for TE-BOW! TE-BOW! at the end of the game...

So what's up here? If you're one of the 'now handful' of the over 1,000 readers that I mentioned above (that has managed to stay with me this long - not like ME who couldn't stay with the Raiders-Broncos telecast)...

Anyway... if you're one of the true die hards... The light bulb will go on in your head that this is ANOTHER West Coast team playing a 1PM game on the East (in fact - there are many of them on the NFL schedule this year because that's how the division schedule wheels)...

Last year... The Raiders basically won all their games in the division, then struggled 'out of division'... Two of their wins came vs. the Chargers (basically on blocked punts) which brings up a point that I'd like to make...

Last week, in the NFL there were 3 kickoffs returned for TD's & 5 punts returned for TD's... The 8 total was a 'record' in a single week, in NFL history... There are many theories as to why that occurred, but MINE is that it is due to the lockout (combined with the new kickoff rules - at the 35 yard line)... The bottom line is that most NFL 'rookies' that make the squad (that are not 1st or 2nd rounders) make it due to excellence on special teams in pre-season...

But in the pre-season, you just had a bunch of kickers trying to make 'pseudo' 75 yard field goals (on kickoffs) & otherwise booting out 'souvenirs' to the lucky fans in the end zone seats next to the JOHN 3:16 guy with the rainbow afro...

After a few weeks, the teams basically said ***k this noise (& started running the kicks out anyway from any ball that was within the confines of the hot dog vendor)... The result is/was that you're seeing a lot of sloppy 'special teams' coverage by rookie players that couldn't practice due to the lockout & otherwise didn't have many PLAYS during the pre-season to actually run down & cover something (& instead did a 20 yard windsprint while watching the ball sail to Timbuktu)...

The Bills acquired Brad Smith from the Jets in the off season (Smith, besides being backup QB to Ryan Fitzpatrick), is one of the better kick returners in the NFL... Now, if Janikowski can kick 63 yarders off the cartpath with an 8 degree driver, I'm sure he can put it out of the end zone at Rich Stadium off a tee (at least in the month of September)... But you never know...

Remember - NO ONE circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills!

Anyway... I'm siding with the BILLS here (because I won with them last week - when nobody believed me)... I'll put (1 unit) on it...
Gameday Note: Janikowski received news during the week about a former assault charge.

BILLS (3 of 3)

http://fantasy-sports-nation.blogspot.com/2011/09/fantasy-sports-nation-2011-nfl-picks_21.html

"New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills (1:00 EDT)
Line: Patriots by 8.5

Let's put it this way... The Bills have not defeated the Patriots since 2003... It's not likely that that streak is going to end right here right now...

The Bills (2-0) have surprised a lot of people (NOT MYSELF - who predicted them as a 2-0 team to start the season)... But face it, they've played the hapless Chiefs (who I also said pre-season was overrated), and they managed to defeat the Raiders last week (where the Raiders were playing in a 3 hour time zone difference)... The Bills needed a Frank Reich era 'miracle' to pull that one out...

I'm pretty sure it's going to be tougher on the Bills to score on every single possession in the 2nd half on the Patriots... & even if they do... I'm even more confident that Tom Brady & company can match that output in real time... So the question becomes... Can the Bills afford to fall behind 21-3 at halftime as they did last week?

I think they're spunky... But not that talented (by Patriots standards)... The Patriots defense gave up chunks of yards to Chad Henne (in a weird game)... Then gave up chunks of yards to Philip Rivers (which is not so unnatural)... But as I wrote last week... I think the Patriots are on a mission this year... I think they make it to the Superbowl... I think Tom Brady breaks every record that was ever set... The Bills are a fly to swat in this pilgrimmage...

Now... Laying a TOUCHDOWN is a different story... The Patriots narrowly escaped a backdoor cover (vs. Miami) in week 1... They narrowly beat the spead last week vs. the CHARGERS by scoring a meaningless touchdown in the end... I can't really say where it's going to be... But I can't be laying points with the Patriots in this spot... Then again... I can't be taking points with the Bills... I think the real 'set-up' here is to watch how the outcome of this game has an effect on the lines NEXT WEEK... One of the side stories is the fact that the Patriots have scored 30 or more points in 10 straight NFL contests... The record is 14 (& I think they have an eye on that prize)... I think the Bills can score 30 here as well if the Pats play loose defense as they have the past 2 weeks

So I'll go ahead and take the BILLS & the points, but for (0 units)...

re: Mike Wallace

damn that guy, I had a more than 30 point lead going into last nights game guy I was against had wallace and I had reggie wayne going, last player on each team to play

score was tied with 3 minutes left, once the Steelers got the ball with two minutes left I knew I was toast, he caught the very first pass of that last drive, maybe a 5-7 yard play,

I lost by 1

so I had that going for me yesterday....

@ben

DOH!

Just pick up 'Antonio Brown'... He's looking sweet & as Mike Wallace starts to get more double coverage, he'll see more looks...

Wallace is Megatron, AJ, Kenny Britt, & Vincent Jackson like though... (even Dez Bryant or Hakeem Nicks)...

I like those guys... DeSean Jackson just isn't the same (to me) because he's too small & brittle... After that shot he took vs. Houston Texans last year... I think he hears footsteps...

@Ra: I will be watching for an update :D

All: I didn't see fixed income risk assets participate so much in the rally today. If I told you what equities did, in a vacuum, and asked to you tell me how spreads changed on industrials (broadly), you wouldn't have been close.

A couple of new issues squeaked through today, almost unnoticed.

Junk is still gaping wide like everyone expects Jesus to descend from the clouds and judge.

Euro politicians are trying the "intimidate to stimulate" playbook that Hank Paulson tried on markets in 2008. (How did that go, Hank?) They will be readying a bazooka pretty soon, which they say will scare the markets in line so they don't have to use it (but they will have to use it).

Economists STILL think that this is a sentiment driven slowdown and that all they have to do is inspire confidence (rather than fix balance sheets). If that area of study vanishes from academia (and the credentialist politicians who instictively consult with economists), the world will never look back.

The idea that you can jawbone an economy back in line is a joke.

People are starting to catch on to the scam that has been the Obama facade (it only took 3 years). But the Republicans are so batshit crazy that an unpopular president will be re-elected. Then we can blame bush for another four years.

Business as usual.

Do I sound cynical today?

Here: I like ice cream and flowers and puppies. Positive thinking.
