Sunday Evening Post & Monday Morning Audibles (CV Version)

You all need to stop reading this blog right now... I'm clearly out of touch with "the pulse" of the AMERICAN way of life... Why? Because I fail to see any HOPE... CHANGE... or merit whatsoever in what has been splashed across the headlines this weekend...

An anthology...

Spanish Police Close Public Beach for Michelle Obama's £250,000 Spanish Holiday

It's bizarre, because sometimes when you try to link onto that article, you get this:

Anyway... Here's some of the foto anthology (in case you were working hard trying to make ends meet and make sure that your TAXES were paid and missed the frivolity)...

While Obama Preaches Sacrifice, His Family Frolics in Spain

I know, I know... That was only the wifey... And it's hard to control the wifey when you hand her the credit card and send her off to the mall (while you sit at home being prudent)...

Obama Choppers Six Miles For Economy Comments

President Obama Friday flew Marine One from the White House less than six miles to Northwest D.C.

He choppered to Gelberg Signs, the Washington, D.C.-based company where he'll deliver remarks on the economy and July employment numbers. (According to Google maps, the drive would have taken about 20 minutes from the White House).

You know... Stuck in your MAN CAVE all hunkered down (while you're preach austerity and are hard at work lookin' out for the LITTLE guy who dreams of HOPE & CHANGE)...

Obama To Play Presidential Pickup With NBA Stars

"U.S. President Barack Obama, who enjoys shooting hoops with family and friends, will take on a couple of tougher -- and much taller --opponents Sunday: the Phoenix Suns’ Grant Hill and the Houston Rockets’ Shane Battier.

The game of presidential pickup will be held at Fort McNair in southwest Washington.

It’s been a bachelor sporting weekend for Obama, whose wife , Michelle, and younger daughter, Sasha, are in Spain."

Obama Caps Birthday Week with Golf, Plans for BBQ

Is that REALLY "hope" & "change" you're selling? Or is it just KOOL AID? And if so... We wary all you OTHER potential KOOL AID sellers out there... The man in the middle of all this hope & change might just send the black helicopters out after you if you start selling some of your own...

Lemonade Stands Get Reprieve:

"After 20 minutes of selling lemonade made from their gallon jugs of bottled water and Kool-Aid packets, a health inspector asked for their license. They didn't have one, and the inspector warned them to stop or face up to a $500 fine..."
---

People... I don't know... Obviously, I'm OUT OF TOUCH... I'm simply "missing the point" here... In any case, that won't stop me from coming up with a MUSICAL ANTHOLOGY to express what feelings these headlines evoke...

Stairway to Heaven - FLOTUS... Is this you?

There’s a lady whose sure all that glitters is gold
And she’s buying a stairway to heaven...

...and it makes me wonder

Yes, there are two paths you can go by but in the long run
Theres still time to change the road youĂ‚’re on.

Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow,
And did you know:
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind...

And as we wind on down the road,
Our shadows taller than our soul...
There walks a lady we all know...
Who shines white light and wants to show…
How everything still turns to gold...
And if you listen very hard the tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all, yeah, to be a rock and not to roll.

And she’s buying a stairway… to Heaven.

But CV doesn't REALLY know anything... He's just your average, run-o-the-mill "opinionater"... A LUNATIC, I tell you!

You May Be Wrong

Regardless... The only thing that keeps me alive every day is to "spill it all over the stage"... after all...

It's Only Rock & Roll

Nevertheless... There's something in my gut that says...

Bad Moon Rising

One of the CLASSIC "head scratchers" that I witnessed this same weekend was the following... I'm pulling out of the parking lot of one of your classic "strip malls", and the car in front of me is this tricked out INFINITY (car model)... In the middle of the back winshield was a "D&G" decal (pause & reflect the a second... A D&G "decal" on a friggin car [Please don't ask me to tell you whether or not it had a Obama/Biden '08 sticker, or a "Yes We Did" sticker on the bumper])... Must have been getting ready for this weekend's beach party...

The BOY SCOUTS (2010 National Jamboree) seemed mighty displeased (they must not have gotten the memo)... It must be a D&G thing... Maybe D&G refused to make their scouting outfits... You never know what you're going to have to "Be Prepared" for, these days...

So please... All you ENLIGHTENED ones out there... Give me some help... Help a poor brother out who has CLEARLY lost his way...

Show Me the Way

If there are any economic reports that come up before the Monday open, I'll add to this thread...

Next week? Rumors of a "QE2 Lite" coming from the FOMC meeting... We need all that stimulus to have any HOPE of "Livin' Large" (Like Louis XVI & Marie Antoinette)...

Until then, I'll have my eye on LVMH stock on "Melt-up Mondays"... Hopefully, I'll be able to make some coin so I can afford to pay my taxes for these jet & helicopter rides...

& in the meantime... Enjoy your CAKE everyone!

That's because you're a cheapskate...

- Has your cable bill gone down?
- The price of a beer at the concert?
- I guess your wife buys the produce at the supermarket
- water & power bill?
- homeowners insurance?

"Jim Cramer says Citigroup, Inc (NYSE: C) Stock Heading “Substantially Higher”

Maybe that's his way of saying it's all going to go up in smoke...

If you exclude food and energy...

Still NOTHING in the way of volume...

This may be the lowest volume day of the year...

Prices are a distraction.

Deflation, bitchez™.

At least in the 1930's you could burn your stock certificates to heat your house...

That's it, Giles. Pump it to blow the sell stops and trigger buy stops. Then REVERSE thrust, to lure in fresh shorts... gently now... and finally one last PUMP to blow the new stops and hose the shorts.

We are the SQUID and this is how we roll.

we just went through this the other day:

1. my wife says our food costs are down big since mid 08, I have to defer to her on this because I don't go to the store much, and I can tell you, or my pants can, that I haven't been eating a lot less. And btw, you CV, of all people, already know the simple budget way to reduce grocery costs...grow your own.

2. Prices for goods and services at concerts are paid by monkeys....enough said. $45 for a crappy t-shirt is your own fault for being an idiot. $10 beers inside the venue, ditto,... I drank a 12 pack in the parking lot.

3. My cable bill HAS gone down, in order to compete with FIOS comcast is offering me all the premium channels plus extra sports channels for what I used to pay just for HBO so I could watch Sapranos and I no longer pay for my third cable box.

4. Are my cost per thousand gallons of water a lot higher? Yep, way higher. And as I've said, there are other dynamics at work there.

Still, bottom line is, I spent more money on my first home (or my last car for that matter) than I will my entire life on water bills, and dollars from two years ago buy you more home in virtually every city and town across the entire country, which more than offsets the increase per thousands of gallons on my water.

it's a little tough for me to swallow the idea of no return on dollars since we've found ourself in deflation, while the argument that water, for example, is a lot more expensive than before, is impossible to deny, its impact on the typical household budget is certainly up for debate.

LB's pants are practically falling off, after a very hot chick suggested he had been gaining weight and could lose a few pounds. Not that we have trouble keeping our pants on, you understand, it's just.....

Now, Giles... the COLD STEEL is in place, just apply a little leverage.

@McF

"Growing your own" doesn't pay dividends in your first year...

Manny (who I'd read wants to start a garden), is going to find it's a lot harder than sticking a shovel in the ground and raking some seeds in...

First of all... If you're using city water, forget it... Your watering costs will end up being the same as if you buy the produce at the store...

Then there's all the fertilizers, protective netting, raised boxes (if you do it that way), tools, irrigation systems, stands & trelises, peat pots, clay or plastic pots...

etc. etc. etc... (and that's before you ever go buy a seed)

Most people would "quit" after they found that their yields were so small and they weren't ready INFRASTRUCTURE wise...

Hell, in Minnesota, you'd basically have to have a whole set-up in your basement to get things started in Feb/March...

Most stuff you can't get into the ground outside there until after Mothers Day...

Lefty,

I did find a picture where it appears, indeed, that your pants may have fallen...some seem to be surprised by this....

Still feeling unstimulated, Karen?

Was wondering about unloading my JNK, feels like walking around with explosives strapped to my chest.

Derisking is almost upon us...

""Growing your own" doesn't pay dividends in your first year"

neither did getting out of the stock market in 07 and putting your money in safe cash equivalents and holding dollars...but in a few years time....

:-)

some of the best farmers I know live right on Lake Erie, where your Welch's grape juice comes from, the temps there are just as bad as where Manny lives and the snowfall likely worse, but they make a living being farmers just the same.

Things that end up being good for most people are rarely ever "easy".

In any event, I stand by the dollar in deflation, time will tell if this is the right call or not.

Thanks, Ben. I feel better, and look how frisky I am today.

Now if KAREN would just HEART me, I am pretty sure that I would be UUP in no time and there's no telling how much I might rise.

Small crap are leading this rally, I mean SMALL CAP...

Bucky,

I'm a bit of a wet rag today.

LB has added to a short of Treasuries, is apprehensive.

Contemplative. Introspective....

karen said...

TBT must be frustrating traders.. volume very light, too. and unlike JNK it doesn't pay a div, either..

arbitrage789 said...

"Apprehensive, contemplative and introspective"

Sounds like a pretty good investment posture.

Leftback said...

Karen,

We don't hold on to TBT. We just go in and out quickly. We're not always correct but it helps to offset rate risk inherent in our firm portfolio.

Leftback said...

Sorry our firm's portfolio... it's that icon of yours, K.
My fingers stiffened up on the QWERTY.

karen said...

TBT just seems to be stagnating.. perhaps like the economy? but certainly not the indices which are leading : )

hope to be more chipper tomorrow, later all!

Bruce in Tennessee said...

Bye karen,

Sorry the snake scared you...........

Have a lovely evening Karen :)

Again I despise pre FOMC days...

Leftback said...

That was only his pet snake....

I despise FOMC days themselves more than pre-FOMC days.
EVERYONE is long Treasuries anticipating QE.

Reminds me of the day Fed cut to 1% and EVERYONE was in gold.
Decision hit and gold fell $50 in about 20 minutes.

Leftback said...

Bye KAREN. No snakes tomorrow. Promise.

Nic, LB is smelling a rat with this QE, am now buying your skepticism.
Added to STRONGER DOLLAR hedges.

Leftback said...

The Bond Report

Credit markets were in their usual pre-FOMC paralysis. It is really too boring to discuss the day's "trading".

We added to a moderate short Treasury position. We could be wrong, but we have a hunch that too many players are overloaded on the long side, and so we are hedging here, but with the tightest of stops.

What if everyone has already bought into the idea that the Fed will extend the QE? Or what if there is none?
