LEFTBACK'S BOND REPORT

The Bond Report 4.6.11

Today was that "risk-on steepener" that we have seen so many times in between POMOs and the next long bond auction. Punters were dumping govies and the long end was hit hard, almost reaching LB's magic limit of 4.60% on the 30y.

We are not doing much in this market. There isn't a lot of value. HY spreads are too tight, and govie yields are not compelling. Munis and mortgages have been moribund of late.

Corpies: LQD -0.32%; AGG -0.30%; JNK 0.25%; HYG 0.22%
Govies: TLT -1.50%; IEI -0.21%; TIP -0.54%
Munis: IQI -0.33%; MUB -0.40%
Mortgages: MBB -0.08%
Specialty: ZROZ -1.99%; TBT 2.97%; EMB 0.24%

This week we reduced JNK to 7% and added some IEI. Total fixed income is now 16%. We all know where the action is, it is in commodities, FX and equities for now. But wait until May...

MASTERS starts tomorrow...

& thus the world still turns (pimento cheese sandwiches & all)

Paulson made 4.9Bn last year personally...

Tepper made 2.2Bn for just being a d-bag who was happy to front run the government in a significant way.

Is this is a great country or what?

Added in my "glimpse" at Silver. Last night's lone resistance provided a "stopper" to the run today, but the peaking action is not really "persuasive."

Short term trading supports are highlighted in the chart.

@LB

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the schedule of bond auctions in the light of both:

- The USG teetering on the (so called) debt ceiling...

&

- the hilarious "strawman" that the GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN "could" just be a thinly veiled way of GETTING THRU a few weeks of low checkbook balance (i.e. save a few tens of billions for a few weeks by blaming the holding of IRS tax refunds on the government shutdown)...

What? The US Government doesn't have enough credit to get a PAYDAY LOAN?

Sheesh! :-)

---

PS... I'll try an cobble up a MASTERS prediction... & oh by the way...

"Lefty" (Phil Mickleson's) MASTERS DINNER menu was in honor of Seve Ballesteros this year...

Lefty classy... Tiger - not so much...

@Andy

I'm not sure how this will play into the SILVER techs...

But recently - futures ticked from BACWARDATION to CONTANGO (not by much)...

I'm not willing to say anything OTHER than - AS at the $30 "psycho" level - this could provide the imputeus for a brief pullback (but I wouldn't necessarily) count on a lot of DEPTH...

I actually think it's NOT so much of a PM PUSH to watch, but RATHER if the EURO breaks out of resistance (around $1.43)...

Bottom line: If the Euro goes to $1.50, then the bucky slam is going to send PM's breaking out...

Giving his/her "bottom left to top right" chart ANALysis as to the likelihood of an ECB rate hike...

What a hoot that must have been!... So sad I missed it... ror

The ECB rate decision... of a friggin 25 basis points... AS WITH EACH & EVERY NFP REPORT that comes out on a monthly basis...

Well all I can say is that I'm happy that PEGGY JOSEPH is getting along (because I'm pretty sure that OBAMA is paying her gas and mortgage)...

Likewise... I'm happy that Bob Prechter & friends are happy the this bout of deflation has taken the price of oil down to $10 a barrel...
