McB,

w/:"...I might have to report this to the authorities..."

see some of..

"...Homeland Security’s See Something, Say Something snitch campaign is now so pervasive that Big Sis has extended the message to coffee cups, recruiting jittery coffee drinkers to spot terrorists as part of a deal with the Maryland Transit Administration, which used DHS funds to purchase the ads.

The message appears on the sleeve of coffee cups and reads, “If you see something, say something…Report unattended bags and unusual behavior to police or transit personnel.”

The image features a Big Brother eye motif above the lettering.

According to a spokesman, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security provided the funds to pay for the ad and the Maryland Transit Administration duly complied. The DHS has partnered with numerous public and private entities, including Wal-Mart and the NFL, to promote its See Something, Say Something campaign, the PSA’s for which feature predominantly white middle class Americans characterized as terrorists engaging in “suspicious behavior” such as talking to police officers or using video cameras...."

I heard the White House press secretary, yesterday, point out that raising the retirement age for social security recipients does NOT save money.

Colbert once referred to this type of statement as truthiness.

My cohorts on this blog know well that I believe that taxes should be significantly higher than they are now (at least for a short period of time) in order to help Americans make better choices about what they demand from government. I suspect that Americans would reject the current level of government service if they had to pay the actual price for them (instead of growing bills for the next generation).

Yesterday, the president explained that the wealthy need to pay their fair share. I think that everyone should pay their fair share, given my strong sense of justice. A fair share is a squishy concept that I suspect is disconsonant among Americans of all walks of life.

I am a single man who earns a median income from a regular occupation. My income is not tax-advantaged and I don't engage in any government-favored social behaviours which result in a tax deduction. My perspective is authentic and untainted by deductions.

When I consider a "fair share" in taxes, I don't just review the tax advantage of wealthy persons' income classification; I also review peers who bought homes with borrowed money, people with children, people who buy certain types of cars, etc.

They all pay a lower rate to me. I don't know what a "fair share" is, but I know that people who pay a lower rate than me are not quite there.

Some people sleep nude. What will Chick-Fil-A do? Have a spare set of pajamas just in case?
