STFU Everyone! - I'm trying to watch a football game for God's sake!

I'm going to dispense with the big intro here because everyone knows that the subject matter is...

Since nobody on the internet seem to be football fans, and instead seem to who have nothing better to do than think of ways to blame Sarah Palin or Goerge Bush for everything... I'm going to assign you some afternoon reading...

The the 'core' of the Ritholtz and his merry band of socialists argument seems to be the wording that Sara Palin has used recently... "Take Aim" (as if there's some kind of covert subterfuge going on - that it's the CODE WORD that is suppose to flip a million Imperial Storm Trooper clones to fight against the Jedi Knights)...

Note: I'm not coming out in DEFENSE of Sarah Palin here, I'm just coming out AGAINST fucking idiots who use any opportunity they can conjure to "flame"  (because, well, that's what "flaming" [insert TYPE of flamer here]'s do)...

Here are some of the ways "Take Aim" have been used by RIGHT WING ANARCHISTS in the past (you'd be surprised WHO is a right wing anarchist)...

Take Aim Against Cavities

A fucking toothpaste... Don't use toothpaste people... It's probably C-4 explosive meant to blow your mouth up...

Take Aim Against Bow Hunting

Hey... I thought Ted Nugent was the Right Wing Jackass... Looks like the liberals are fixing to gun him down... Which proves the point... NEVER bring a bow and arrow to a gun fight...

Take Aim Against HPV

Human PAP virus... I thought liberals were hippie losers from the 60's... all about "free love" & shit... No so much anymore... "CLAP" your hands togetha if i can get a witness!...

Take Aim Against Drunk Driving

Those fucking Minnesota jerks! Communists who don't want you to drink & drive... If you don't blow a 2.0 everytime you get behind the wheel, they'll be around to gun you down... Whose riding shotgun?

Sierra Club Take Aim Against EPA (Sierra Club)

Never associated sarah Palin with "tree huggers" did you?

Take Aim Against Cyber Bullying

Maybe that dude in Arizona thought the judge was a cyber bully... Maybe someone started a blog, and the blog "czars" said he couldn't comment or post what he felt in his heart... he felt he was being "bullied" and took aim... I suppose it could happen... Not in MY world though where people are allowed to air out their thoughts (and release their "pent up" anger with their minds instead of their guns - and not be FORCED into linear thought)...

Take Aim Against Cruelty to Circus Animals

I'm wondering where the "puppy lovers" (the "dog blog") comes down on this... Dilemmas Dillemas Dilemmas...

Take Aim Against Lung Cancer

Go ahead... Light up! But then no wait... Quit, and go on the attack... Then KILL all the smokers and steal all their cigarettes...

Yoga Takes Aim Against Wrinkles

So you thought the LuluLemon crowd were little fairy pacifists didn't you? Little did you know that they were all card carrying members of the Sarah Palin fan club...

Greens Take Aim Against Oil Shale

If you can't beat em (the drill drill drillers)... Kill em!

Take Aim Against Financial Crimes

Don't worry about punishment... You'd have the bankers on your side... They know very well to sidestep the law...

Take Aim Against Public Corruption

If you're a liberal, and think the "take aim" phrase is dangerous, I guess you'd be against any movement to curb public corruption...

Kentucky Basketball Takes Aim at 2,000 Wins

I'm guessing that kentucky basketball will now 'forfeit' all its games from here to eternity because of the mess that sarah Palin has created...

High Schools Takes Aim at State Championship

Oh yeah... And it's gonna 'bleed' (no pun intended) all the way down to the high school level...

Take Aim (Action) Against Illegal Medicines

I thought you liberals all wanted universal healthcare... I guess you're all just Big Pharma supporters...

IRS Takes Aim Against Tax Cheaters

Don't "take aim" against tax cheaters... The liberals would prefer you to "cheat away at will"...
Democrats Take Aim Against De-Regulation

It must be confusing to wake up every morning...

Unions Take Aim Against the Services Directive...

Ditto

Bankruptcy Attorneys Take Aim Against MERS

They d rather have you "out of your house for no reason" than to "take aim" against any injustice...

Take Aim Against High Blood Pressure

Eat all the fried food you want... If you went the Sarah Palin route and didn't "take aim"... well, I shudder to think!

Environmentalists Take Aim Against water Management Plan

Polluted Water for Everyone!

Red Sox Take Aim at 4th Straight against the Twins

Jeez, it must be hard if you have your allegiance tied between these two towns and ballclubs... You probably wake up every morning with a gun in each hand pointed at your head wondering which trigger to pull...

French Unions Take Aim Against Sarkozy

Those 'cheese eating surrender monkey communists'... And I always thought Sarah Palin got her inspiration from Moose...

Firefighters Take Aim Against Blaze

Liberals!... "Burning down the house" (since 1776)...

Sexy Models Take Aim in Photos

This is CV's version of taking aim... Oh no! That doesn't make me a Palin supporter does it?

Londoners Take Aim Against Slowpokes

We learned everything we know from the Brits... I think the Brits need to take it easy here... After all, they were all raised on The Benny Hill Show... They ought to give slowpokes a moment to compile their travel pictures to entertain the two people on the planet who are interested in what the fuck they have to say...

And the "piece de la restance"... For all you who are worried about Sarah Palin... (Well, CV doesn't even have to leave his own back yard to find this)...

Joe Manchin (D. WV) I'll Take Aim Against Cap & Trade

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130888515

Peeps... Perhaps Sarah Palin just watched too much Charlies Angels, or James Bond movies... Chill out and go back to your bird stories... And leave me with "my" birds (the Ravens)...

On the earlier thread, Ben had this to say to both Ahab and myself:

"That said, surely the two of you recognize that our words can and DO have tremendous impact on others and that those that are in a position where millions of people around the world hear them, and listen to them, may want to consider carefully what they say, which was the point of my Palin rant above."

I agree. I remember reading and hearing about the Palin ads back at the time and thought they were, at least, in poor taste. That said, anyone who is NOT insane knows that she wasn't suggesting that these people actually be killed.

The gun thing is her "schtick" as it were. It appeals to her "base."

This kids was clear whacked out.

I think BR posting on it and ASSIGNING blame, as if she was the only person on the planet to ever use elevated rhetoric, was a JACKASS move.

Andy T said...

The other thing I'd like to point out...

The left wing/progressive/socialist are extremely rabid and hateful of "elites" or bankers that have been bailed out.

You need to read some of Mannwich's comments someday on this matter: He uses phrases like warfare and pillaged in regard to that situation. I actually think Mannwich is more level-headed than the most radical people out there--he has a job, home, etc...

But, when you read his stuff, you might think he was "on the edge" of taking out a banker or someone he might consider an "elite" who has waged WAR on him and his people.

It's pretty scary stuff all around.

The point is that groups on the far right and the far left actually have a lot in common.

The both feel the the Government, or "powers that be," ARE taking things AWAY from them and giving it to other people.

And, I don't disagree. The actions of the last few years have seen the government reallocate the WEALTH of this country to various select groups. It's actually the middle class in the country that is getting the SHAFT. And, there is societal tension....

I really just wonder what the reaction would have been if some bankrupted middle class homeowner, who just had his home "taken away" by Bank America, shot several BofA executives?

I wonder what the reaction would have been?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For the recod, I don't own a Gun. I'm not an NRA guy. I'm not a Tea-Party person. I'm not a fan of Sarah Palin--I've said that several times in the past. This looks like the work of single person who was "checked out" mentally.
Andy T said...
The Joe Manchin ad is a perfect of example of "schtick." It appeals to the people of W.Virgina whose votes/support he was seeking....
works in a Govt basement somewhere to be named later said...
Here's a problem, and, it's only going to get worse...
Population in the US is estimated to be 311,863,000
Total nonfarm employment is 130,712,000 and this includes Govt. employees.
181,151,000 are either working on farms, retired, unemployed or underage (maybe illegals too?)... could this be right?
Kind of looks like about 40% of the population is supporting 100% of the population... hmmm
Not to mention total nonfarm includes Govt employees and military which produce nothing IMO, calculate this into the figure and it would be far less than 40%... another hmmm
Blaming Sarah Palin for this shooting is like me blaming Obama for me losing my job because last summer I went for a drive to visit all 57 states and never came back because I'm still looking for the last 7 + 1 states.
Now what would happen if this was in Target's parking lot? It would be their fault, but only after they said it was Bush's fault.
Plain and simple this guy was a lugnut and no where on his Myspace page or anywhere else for that matter did he mention Palin.
That was my STFU showstopper... Look, not that I'm interested in taking this anywhere beyond where it's been taken already...
For the record: I'm appalled AND SADDENED by the events (as any "caring" person might be)... I live in this country... I love this country... I don't want to leave it... I DID THAT ALREADY (for 12 years)... Not because I wanted to get away, but because there was a business opportunity... which worked out well (for both parties)...
In the end... Although I experienced rich and diverse cultures abroad (and have also been "working" in 45 other countries in my career)... I could NEVER WAIT to get back on American soil...
I love this country... WARTS & all...
The WORST thing about Americans is... TOURISTS (Americans in other Countries)...
Want to become a REAL American?...
You can start by staying at home and working on your own problems (not "you" MEH, but I'm talking about American Idiots in general)...
I guarantee you that the news that the blogosphere is all alight about this weekend, will hardly reach the vast majority of human ears...
And even to the ears it reaches... The response will be...
Guys,
I've read some good arguments distancing Palin/Beck/Bachmann fans from the radical yesterday. But, ask yourselves these questions, too:
- Who shows up with rifles to political rallies?
- Who shows up with signs saying "This time we're unarmed -- but we'll be back"?
- Who held a rally where you could shoot a target depicting your political opponent with an M-16?
- Who's on the radio for hours each day telling listeners that left-wingers are traitors?
- Who advocates assassinating Assange?
- Who distributes leaflets near abortion clinics, leaflets that show a person's hand holding a handgun?
- Who told me I was a traitor for (verbally and in voting) opposing George Bush's invasion of Iraq? (They shoot traitors, don't they?)
Taken alone, one might say "big deal" about Palin's and Beck's rhetoric. But, these events are not happening in isolation. Together, they send this message: right-wingers might start killing left-wingers if right-wingers don't get their way.
Do I picture CV or Andy T going postal as a result? No. Of course, the nuts are the first (and hopefully only) people to start shooting. But, right-wing pundits should think more about the fact that *some* of their listeners *are* nuts. I do wish some members of the right-wing tone down their implied (if not explicit) threats of violence.
wunsacon said...
Do some left-wingers engage in political violence? Yes. But, where do they get their inspiration? You don't hear left-wing pundits calling for blood. There is no equivalence here.
E.g., DailyKos used the term "bulls eye" but did not use a graphic. Go see the page for yourself to decide for yourself how "threatening" that was. Compare that to Palin "We found the targets...you prescribe the solution" printed on (one version of) her "district target" flyer.
"...Following the principle of Occam's Razor, and assuming this is not a cruel hoax* (the link to Jared is only a week old), an interesting possibility suggests itself!
Loughner and Giffords knew each other. Jared Loughner twice worked for Gabrielle Giffords' campaign!
Gabrielle Gifford subscribes to Jared Loughner's YouTube channel, effectively linking her public YouTube channel to his YouTube channel. Why? Loughner's YouTube channel doesn't have much in it, and what is there might create some unpleasant concerns in the minds of Giffords' constituents. And Giffords only subscribed to one other channel, meaning this was not something she normally did as a matter of course.
One thing we can know from the subscription from Gabrielle Giffords' subscribing to Jared Loughner's YouTube channel; they were close, closer than the usual candidate/volunteer, close enough that Jared Loughner shared his YouTube channel with Gabrielle Gifford, and Gabrielle Gifford thought it important enough to link her own YouTube channel to.
So here is the "what if?" What if Jared Loughner misread Gabrielle Giffords' level of interest in him? What if he thought there was more than there really was? And what if, in the post-campaign season when Gabrielle Giffords had no more reason to spend any time with him, Jared Loughner felt jilted and betrayed?..."
Anonymous said...
"...What if Jared continued to pursue Giffords until Giffords finally got fed up trying to calm him down and told him to get lost? I know it reads like a soap opera, but we do have a murder that fits the description of a crime of passion, involving two people with a demonstrated close relationship.
And if it should be revealed that we are dealing with a classic case of unrequited lover and infatuation gone deadly, all those political operatives like the Democrats, the gun grabbers, Southern Poverty Law Center, etc. trying to spin this tragedy to benefit their agendas are going to wind up looking like horses' rear ends!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*UPDATE: The possibility that someone has broken into Gifford's YouTube page is undeniable. If the link to Jared is something added after the shooting by a malicious hacker, and setting aside the cruelty and insensitivity of such an action, it means that someone intends to obfuscate the real facts in the case by putting out deliberate disinformation; a classic sign of a cover-up in operation, and that anything seen on anybody's YouTube page, including Jared's, should not be taken at face value."
If she had been the intended target, wouldn't Jared have approached her from the front, if for no other reason than to make sure he had the right woman in his sights? Or to let her know who the agent of her impending death was?
Was someone else shot before Giffords? Like the judge? And if so, is this the reason that the video we presume was being made of her public appearance not been made public?"
"Anyone besides me notice that the media's focus is entirely on the wounded congresswoman while ignoring all the dead people? As of this writing, Loughner hasn't said whether it was the judge or the Congresswoman who was the intended target. The judge did have enemies, mostly from his supporting of illegal immigrants suing homeowners who shot at them.
I wondered about this until Eric Cantor put a hold on Congress and the ADL started screaming about anti-Semitics being behind the attack. That is when the light went on. Congresswoman Giffords is Jewish!
Remember back when Columbia crashed? The media lionized Israel's passenger on the shuttle (same man who had flown the raid that bombed Iraq's power station) to the exclusion of all the other crew members. It was almost sickening to see the US media making a hero out of Ilian Ramon and treating the other victims of the Columbia disaster as if they were background scenery only.
We are apparently seeing the same again today. A wounded Congresswoman takes the center stage, while the people actually killed are relegated to the status of a footnote!..."
I'll only take minor offense to that statement Wunsacon. But, just to set the record straight:
Just because someone doesn't agree with liberal/progressive/socialists DOES NOT make them a right winger!
I've never EVER listened to Rush Limbaugh in my entire life. I've probably watched a LUMP SUM of 20 minutes of Glen Beck--and that was mostly to laugh at him.
Those folks are money maker hucksters whose role it is to appeal to right wing/conservative people.
When I see people carrying guns to rally, my first impressions would be they are:
a) redneck conservatives;
b) really pissed off about something.
That's my honest answer. I have that bias in me. I was raised in a very liberal/union household in California. My mother is a College Professor of English within the California educational system. I've a few degrees myself, so I'm one of those "educated" snobs who has a bias to "look down" on such "red-neckery."
So, that sort of crowd turns me off...
That said, the "educated liberals" (I'm specifically thinking of Hilary Clinton-types) turn me off to the same degree. They have a general mis-trust of people and a belief that all we need "is just a little more government" to help "right the ills" of this society.
So, both ends of the political spectrum really turn me off for various specific reasons.
And, both ends of the spectrum, can be dangerous in their own particular ways....
Please Wunsa, don't ever lump me in with the "right wing" Tea Party/Palin crowd ever again...
Thanks in advance, AT.
As anon. mentioned above: "And if it should be revealed that we are dealing with a classic case of unrequited lover and infatuation gone deadly, all those political operatives like the Democrats, the gun grabbers, Southern Poverty Law Center, etc. trying to spin this tragedy to benefit their agendas are going to wind up looking like horses' rear ends!"
Soledad Avenue, from Congresswoman Giffords on Congressional stationary, dated August 30, 2007, thanking him for attending a "Congress on your Corner" event at the Foothills Mall in Tucson. Also recovered in the safe was an envelope with handwriting on the envelope stating "I planned ahead" and "My assassination" and the name "Giffords" along with what appears to be LOUGHNER's signature."
My question is... Who'd ever HEARD of Sarah Palin in August 2007??? Jeez - In August of 2007, Cramer was ranting "They know nothing" (the Fed), and the Bernank was telling everyone that subprime was contained...
And...Of course... To parcel off and DIVIDE (because it is the act of a "sanitizer" to do so)...
For someone like myself... I only start to get ruffled when people start to infringe on my freedom... There's no reason for me ever to go postal because I don't see life as being this perfect thing...
I don't see people all joing hands and singing kumbaya... It's never happened in the past, and it never will... Probably the day that ever happens will be the day that humankind perishes... Ecosystems evolve through fighting (from plants, to animals, to insects)...
But if Keith Olberman and Rachel Maddow want to waste their time trying to tell me how I should live... FINE... There's always the "off" button on my TV...
From Bob Hoye's Institutional Advisors:
Independent of our Momentum Peak Forecaster, we see other reasons for a correction in the
equity markets. The S&P is up 26% from its summer lows, having made a mild correction back
to the 50-day moving average as we approached the end of November. When comparing other
advances from a corrective low exceeding 25% in 18 weeks (common as we pass into the third
year in the US presidential cycle) we find that a downside move of 5% or more is the next
regular event (1930, ’32, ’33, ’35, ’38, ’42, ’61, ’63, ’67, ’72, ’75, ’76, ’80, ’83, ’85, ’87, ’91,
’96, ’99 and 2003). The strong seasonal period from mid December through the first week has
come to an end. We will look for another test of the 50-day moving average and the 20-day
Bollinger Band with an RSI(14) below 45 soon.
Don't stress over Mr. RitzCracker's posts. I stopped reading his blog several years ago and I am not missing a thing. He made a serious transition from posting useful analysis to writing:
1. Hit pieces on free markets and anyone who believes that free markets might allocate capital better than bureaucrats
2. Laudatory editorials about Democrats
3. Maundering elitist dribble
4. Boastful pieces about his incredible hindsight
So, I stopped reading his crap and I don't miss a thing. I'm glad that he started a blog a long time ago and effectively caused all of us to come together, but his crap is too much for me. It sounds like his crap is too much for most of you too.
=========
As for my morning thoughts:
It is always sad when people violently disrupt our communities. But, let's not be quick to blame guns or anyone other than the perpetrator. He could have easily done as much damage with some bottles of alcohol, rags, and a lighter; or a car; or a brick.
We need to come to grips with the simple reality that risk can never be totally eliminated from society. We have to fight the impulse (which we all have) to start pointing fingers in frustration and wildly/aimlessly enacting poor policy that effectively increases the damage of an incident by negatively impacting a free society, broadly.
=======
The move in credit spreads looks like a breather to me. I am not reacting to the moves today. Dividend stocks are still rock solid today if they are not getting sold in a basket (i.e., not large caps). I still think that dividend stocks, consumer non-cyclicals, and cash are the best positions right now (albeit, the staples have come to be valued a little richly over the past three months).
(AP:NEW YORK) Shares of for-profit universities and training schools tumbled Monday after Strayer Education Inc. said new student enrollments for its winter term slid a steep 20 percent.
That's a marked change from last year, when new student sign-ups at Strayer jumped 16 percent during the winter term. They dipped just 2 percent during the most recent fall term. Strayer said that if the trends of its winter term continue throughout 2011, total student enrollment will be down 5 percent this year, resulting in earnings per share of $7.50 to $7.70. That's well below the $10.46 per share expected by analysts surveyed by FactSet.
The decline at Strayer, which the company's CEO attributed primarily to recent scrutiny by public policy commentators and media of the for-profit education industry, is likely going to drag down investor expectations for the rest of the sector, said UBS analyst Ariel Sokol.
Analysts, surprised by the significant drop in Strayer's enrollments, slashed earnings estimates and their ratings on the stock. Baird analyst Amy Junker cut her earnings estimate for 2011 to $8.15 per share from $11.38 per share. Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia cut his rating to "Sell" from "Neutral."...
(AP:BEIJING) China has banned logging in its largest forest reserve area for 10 years in a bid to combat climate change.
The official Xinhua News agency reported Monday that logging will be prohibited until 2020 in the Great and Lesser Hinggan Mountains in the northeast.
The ban is part of a forest protection program by the National Development and Reform Commission and State Forestry Administration.
China is trying to increase the size of its forests by 99 million acres (40 million hectares) to help reduce greenhouse gases blamed for global warming.
The forest reserve in the Hinggan mountains spreads out over 166,000 square miles (430,000 square kilometers) across Heilongjiang province and into neighboring Inner Mongolia.
good insight into the 'Hearts' of all Statists..
(AP:GENEVA) A Swiss village has found a drastic way to compel dog holders to pay their pet's annual tax: cough up, or the dog gets it.
Reconvilier _ population 2,245 humans, 280 dogs _ plans to put fido on notice if its owner doesn't pay the annual $50 tax.
Local official Pierre-Alain Nemitz says the move is part of an effort to reclaim hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid taxes.
He says a law from 1904 allows the village to kill dogs if its owner does not pay the canine charge.
Nemitz told the AP on Monday that authorities have received death threats since news of the plan got out.
"This isn't about a mass execution of dogs," Nemitz said. "It's meant to put pressure on people who don't cooperate."
The wily Dutchman sees an 18 month bear market in bonds that we all should be trading around. Ten year yields will balloon up from the current 3.40% to 4.20% and the 30 year may see as high as 5.30%. Then in 2013, he thinks we will see another dip in the economy, a resurgence of deflation, and a huge rally in bonds that will take ten year yields all the way back down to the 2010 low of 2.0%.
Nenner’s copper target (CU) is $4.82 by the middle of April, up 9.5% from today’s $4.40 . Other commodities have already seen most of their run. Regarding oil, he sees a short term top around $92, and wants to buy it back and the end of January around $85.50. His multiple year view has it going all the way up to $200, hence his pick of ExxonMobile (XOM) as a favorite equity play. Of the independent oil producers, Charles like Occidental Petroleum (OXY), which he thinks has another 10% left in it.
NEW YORK/LONDON (Reuters) - Hedge funds often claim to offer strong returns that are not correlated with broader markets, but in 2010 many failed on both of those counts.
That failure came in large part because hedge funds cannot make as many bets with borrowed money, analysts said.
Hedge funds on average returned just 4.52 percent this year to December 28, according to Hedge Fund Research's HFRX index.
That is short of the FTSE 100's (FTSE:^FTSE - News) 10.5 percent jump or the Standard & Poor's 500 Index (^SPX - News) 12.7 percent rise.
More weakness expected in TLT this week going into the auctions. Expect to see this spill over into MBB and MUB. Buying opportunities ahead in those areas and in equities that trade MBS and CMBS, such as CIM and NLY. One pattern that repeats reliably is a sell-off of equities on long bond auction days until the yield reaches attractive levels (typically these days are W, Th). So we have this week targeted for some JBTFD.
This is FASCINATING. There is clearly anti-bank sentiment growing among local business communities. I am frankly surprised that no bankers have yet been "spray-painted", "egged" or other forms of non-violent public "naming and shaming".
BTW: A fixed income analyst to be named later mentioned some of his divy equities last week and I noted that I own about three of them. There are two more that I figure I should mention in just for disclosure and in case anyone wants to look through:
#1: SO. I bought this one in June last year, so I have some nice cap gains on it, but it pays more than 4.5 percent and I expect the utilities space to be relatively stable in an otherwise choppy market. I don't know if you will see a significant dip in this, but if you do, it might present a good opportunity.
#2: VLCCF. This one is extremely volatile and I sucked out and caught it at the bottom of the May vomit in equities. I think it pays over 7 percent. This one is fun to gamble (read: trade) because of the vol. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see it pull back quite a bit to give a good entry for a trade (or hold on a keep the attractive payout).
We do enjoy filling gaps, and can be very patient.
The big gap was the one that opened from $15 down to $9 or so in May 2010. We expect this stock to go quiet here and just range trade for a while, unless the Tepper effect is radioactive.
Yikes. Brent crude at $95. There is a lot more FLATION in the UK than here, it is going to be an unhappy year once the Tories start cutting the budget in earnest.
Seriously, the way the commodity market looks from Asia and Europe is quite different from here, our larger output gap makes us see slack demand and dollar carry trade whereas they see raging growth and hot money.
Make no mistake, NPR created a real problem with Mr. Williams’s firing. On “The O’Reilly Factor” on Nov. 20, Mr. Williams suggested that when he was traveling, seeing people in airports in what he called “Muslim garb” made him nervous. Ms. Weiss decided based on that statement, and a number of others, that NPR needed to terminate its contract with Mr. Williams. She called Ms. Schiller, who was traveling that day, and briefed her on the decision. Ms. Weiss subsequently called Mr. Williams and said his contract was being terminated.
I have not put up anything on tonights BCS National Championship game...
I'm probably not going to do a detailed analysis on the "X"'s and "O"'s...
All that are needed are a few simple tips...
- Auburn Tigers were favored ny 3 points (with the early money supporting Auburn to the tune of 64%
- The line, today, moved down to AUBURN (-1.5)...
- So ask yourself "WHY" Vegas is giving you even more incentive to support Auburn...
Answer: For those in different time zones and are slow to wake up... VEGAS IS SUPPORTING THE OREGON DUCKS (in one of the biggest volume $$ games of the year)...
So do you want to be on the same side as the Blankfeins & Dimons (of sports wagering), or on the John E Public side?
I already know which I'd rather do...
If anybody TRULY wants to help the prospect of this country, they should...
- Spend the next 18 months (until about late summer 2012 - when the political national conventions convene before the next election) preparing food supplies, and all the basic necessities they'd need to survive for a year or two without their normal pay...
- Then, do something stupid to get fired from their job...
- Immediately file for unemployment benefits and SNAP...
- Take all their money out of banks...
- Vote Obama into office for another term...
- And not spend a single dime after that (except for what was truly necessary)...
That ought to be the most fun filled 4 years of your life you could ever think to spend...
And I'm pretty sure "change" would come as result of that...
"We need to rethink the need for almost anyone in an urban area to have a firearm. It's not very compelling."
1. Bearing arms isn't a neccesity for many people in the sticks either, we have grocery stores too, some of us know how to fish, but last I checked it is a right to bear arms so if I'm reading this correctly, re-write the constitution....? What exactly would the benefit be? That'd likely only serve to fuel the fringers even more.
2. I would imagine for all the people in NYC (or any urban area) that have been robbed at gunpoint, murdered by a gunmen, raped, etc. that they could offer a fairly compelling reason of why one may wish to own a gun for protection. As if making guns illegal is going to stop criminals from getting them.
If the idea is to let the government control all the guns, all I can say is be careful what you wish for, it's probably not the "change" you were originally thinking of.
I must live in my own universe because to me, if someone sets in motion the end of anothers life with a gun, or with the stroke of a pen....
I see no difference
Bruce in Tennessee said...
Ben,
I concur. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle once mused about his writings and felt that although crime in urban areas made one feel uneasy, that in rural areas much crime was hidden from easy sight, and consequently unpunished and perhaps more heinous.
Frankly, although I realize the dangers, I own guns and I have a carry permit here for Tennessee. (Although I never carry a weapon into a public area, this was my wife's idea.) In these times, I wouldn't want the general public to not own weapons, because of the rot in the government. I don't think we'll ever rebel, but I think that the 60's thinking that the government will always have the citizen's best interest at heart are long gone.
Anonymous said...
The problem with urban guns is they tend to go off in situations that are not the intended (self-defense against vicious career criminal) scenario. Just an observation that is hard to dispute. Guns hurt people.
Many American peeps have low IQ and are a bit "clumsy", "forgetful", "distracted", "get wasted and play Russian roulette" or "like, are totally a Stoner". They really shouldn't be driving cars, let alone have deadly weapons close to hand.
I don't like armed cops either, but one begets the other.
Of course that would simply hasten the fall... in my post there I tried to focus on the things we can see: Treasuries, China/Aussie slowdown/crash, rather than US equities, where mainly I see rotation out of (miners, materials, industrials) to (telecoms, utilities, pharma). Growth to divvys. IWM and QQQQ to SPY and DIA, to put it another way.
The change will lower the number of individual CUSIPs held by the Fed in its system open market account and subsequently reduce costs and "operational challenges associated with managing the MBS portfolio."
The Fed holds nearly $1 trillion of MBS with more than 44,000 individual agency MBS CUSIPs. This aggregation process is expected to cut that number to less than 10,000, according to the central bank..."
um, ok.
I see this much like pooling subprime, this way when some of the paper goes bad it'll only be a small select few that are willing to read and discover where it's going bad which will likely require thousands of pages for each tranche of aggregated CUSIPS to figure out what is going on, and then also they can keep a higher credit quality rating on the pools of CUSIPS while virtually nobody catches on to the fact that a AAA tranche might be 1/3 dog shit.
and if you can't find the individual CUSIPS then it'll be that much harder to perform any analysis on single issues
a lot of the early subprime shorts didn't even really know what they were betting against, more or less they just had a larger vision, but they couldn't see all the details either.
