LEFTBACK'S BOND REPORT

The Bond Report 12.21.10

Today was a mild flattener, with yields falling slightly at the long end. IG and HY were well bid and Ts outperformed TIPS. HYG remained close to the resistance zone at 90, but well above the all-important 88,50 level discussed in the blog.

Corpies: LQD 0.21%; AGG 0.19%; JNK 0.12%; HYG 0.21%
Govies: TLT 0.70%; IEI 0.03%; TIP 0.17%
Hedgies: TBT -1.18%

We did nothing. Still long a HYG/LQD combination, and TIP. No AGG, no Treasuries yet. Cash is handy this time of the year, unless you are BRIAN who always likes JOHN E to be ALL IN. We like to see how the year begins before we put Bucky to work.

"...Everything contained within the Post’s article has already been reported and covered in depth by this website and others in the alternative media that have consistently warned of the threat of the exponential rise of the big brother spy system over the past decade.

The report details Homeland Security head Janet Napolitano’s recent “See something, say something” campaign, which encompasses the federal government hooking up with Wal-Mart, Amtrak, major sports leagues, hotel chains and metro riders to encourage citizens to file “suspicious activity reports” if they see any activity they think could be criminal or terroristic.

The government defines a suspicious activity as “observed behavior reasonably indicative of pre-operational planning related to terrorism or other criminal activity” related to terrorism.

As we reported recently, critics of the program have been literally dubbed insane by it’s coordinators, despite legitimate concerns over asking citizens to effectively spy on each other for the government.
The Washington Post report notes that such suspicious activity reports are just one piece of information being collected at the local and state levels and fed into a vast “Guardian” database via fusion centers, which ultimately connect to the FBI, the DHS and even the Department of Defense.

According to the report, the spook network includes 4,058 federal, state and local organizations.
Intelligence centers run by states across the country have access to personal information about millions of Americans, including unlisted cell phone numbers, insurance claims, driver’s license photographs and credit reports.

Dozens of the fusion centers were created after 9/11 to identify potential threats and “improve the way information is shared”. The centers use law enforcement analysts and sophisticated computer systems to compile, or fuse, disparate tips and clues and pass along the refined information to other agencies.

I guess all the Red pomo days have not dampened John's spirit, or the person buying the Q's at the close, I've read nearly the same exact quote now on four different blogs:

I just did my POMO day trade today to make some money (to pay for Christmas gifts:

total conviction environment, reality be damned.
and btw, pomo is an effing coin flip the longer it lasts, please don't be a monkey.

MeH - Anyone who uses the internet knows they can be tracked, anyone who uses a "club" card should know they are being targeted, anyone who uses a credit/debit card should understand they can be monitored.

However all those are electronic transactions and can with some insight and prudence can be made to show false data. On top of that the shear amount of data and (Currently) inefficent data bases, makes it nearly impossible to track a specific individual - I am NOT worried the government is tracking everything Mangy Mutt does electronically.

However your above post is very scary, this means that anyone who for whatever reason deems me a "threat" can call and I will be monitored and my electronic transactions will then be targeted.

And this will be done because.... I look different, act different, smell different, dress different... Whatever does not matter, because some busy body can say I am threatening, now the governement can make it their business to track me and not just for a month or two, but forever.

Didn't Germany have a system like this back in the 30 & 40's. That did not work out to well for a lot of folks.

MEH,

Don't worry about it--it's just personal liberties....

If you rail too much on such things, you'll become a target or be lumped in with those crazy zealot "tea party" types.

"...I’m going to provide a one paragraph summary, just to make sure that the implications of this are clear to everyone:

The U.S. Government has, almost certainly, established a database and tracking system for something like eight million Americans who have been designated as threats to national security. The system is called MAIN CORE and it is being run under the auspices of highly classified Continuity of Government (COG) operations. MAIN CORE uses a variety of intelligence sources as inputs, including your email, web activity, telephone and private financial information. In the event of a major national security crisis, it is alleged that Americans listed in the MAIN CORE database, “Could be subject to everything from heightened surveillance and tracking to direct questioning and possibly even detention.”

The Last Roundup, by Christopher Ketcham, appeared in the May/June 2008 issue of Radar Magazine. (mirror 1, mirror 2.)

Below are some excerpts from The Last Roundup. I have provided explicit pointers to the related materials on Cryptogon:

According to a senior government official who served with high-level security clearances in five administrations, “There exists a database of Americans, who, often for the slightest and most trivial reason, are considered unfriendly, and who, in a time of panic, might be incarcerated. The database can identify and locate perceived ‘enemies of the state’ almost instantaneously.” [See: AT&T Invents Programming Language for Mass Surveillance]

MM,

the dB's are not, necessarily, sloppy, but their admin.s, certainly, can be..

AT,

wondering if he's got a new book coming out in the not too distant future:

"In the near future, I'll explain, in detail, what Neely River Theory is all about and how it substantially improves the trader's ability to extract profits from a market."

@AmenRa:

I have been choking on your terminology since you started doing these and felt like I must be too stupid to pick it up. Today, I'm swallowing my pride and asking WTF you mean.

"SPX
Bullish short day"

If I'm reading this correctly, you are saying that candles/3LB are... indicating gains for... people who shorted ES contracts?

Why not just say whether the chart is bearish or bullish (and everyone can assume long and then flip if they are short)?

Oh, so the new name/program is "Main Core"?

What happened to rumoured names like "Echelon", "Carnivore", and "Total Information Awareness" that we used to hear about years ago?

Welcome to the Stazi Shell Game!

That makes me think of something...

Can you hear Richard Dawson announcing Julian Assange as the next Running Man?

Matthew

A short day is where there is a tight range and not that much enthusiasm behind the move. A long day would indicate much enthusiasm behind the move. So a bullish short day is a higher close but not much "oomph" behind it.

Everyone who posts here is already on that list, dont sweat it.

I for one am harmless, truth be told. Thats the funny part. I guess in the end, if you're not just oblivious or still asleep, in ignorant bliss, as it were... everyone thinks they are a part of a solution to some kind of problem, that stems from some kind of figment of what they think this world "should" or "shouldnt" be like, then they act on it. Some to differing degrees of harm I suppose. Its the ones that seek control that are the creepy ones.

"...S&P500 REACHES AN ALL-TIME HIGH

Dr. Bernanke, using his mandate of ‘make sure the stock market keeps going up’, continues to pump liquidity into the system in 2011. Even ‘mom-and-pop’ investors realise the only strategy worth following is to buy the dips. But the tactic actually works for the Fed, even though it’s a house of cards, and the US consumers start to spend as their stock portfolios improve and they forgive their money managers. Corporate America doesn’t buy the euphoria that a healthy share price is a good indicator of health, though, and continues the deleveraging process – margin improvements, a wary approach to spending and managing the balance sheet, refinancing debt at next to zero interest rates, and so on. Next thing you know, it’s a proper recovery and the US benchmark index sees the 2007 peak in the rear-view mirror on its way to 1,600..."
