Weekend Timeouts

If you haven't figured it out yet... The BREAD & CIRCUSES have arrived... This is NCAA Week 2 - while the NFL kicked off the season two days ago (as soon as the TELEPROMPTER finished his speech on how just another $450 billion on the tab & we'll be home free)...

Speaking of 'HOME' & 'FREE'... I figured I'd add a little musical accompaniment (on this '10th Anniversary - 9/11 weekend)... I'll just deposit it here without comment (as everyone is free to reflect as they choose)...
Rockin' In the Free World
As I stated last week... I'm going to continue to publish a weekend 'feature' game (NCAA or NFL) here in this space (as well as a link to the blogspace I'm running now which deals exclusively with NCAA/NFL Football & Fantasy Sports)...

WEEK 2 - FEATURE GAME

#3 Alabama Crimson Tide (-10.5) vs. #23 Penn St. Nittany Lions (3:30 PM)
No offense to 'ben22' here (a PSU alum)... But this is one of CV's highest rated plays in NCAA 'against' his alma mater...

CV is going with a 4 unit play on BAMA... They're just too fast & talented on defense & Penn State may not even score here (unless their DEFENSE either gets them some points &/or sets them up in opposing territory for some kind of field goal attempt)...
Basically, I'm thinking a WHITEWASH is more than likely to overcome the WHITE OUT...
But that's just me... So far, it's all on paper [he said 'paper']... I guess that's why they go ahead and play the game...
ALABAMA for (4 units)

---

Note: I'll continue to use the other blog only as a 'pick' resource for quite awhile (Comments are disabled there)... Whether any of you like it or not... I like to hang around HERE to yuk it up... Why?

Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name...

Alternative transport fuels: An Indian perspective
09.01.2011 | Jain, A., Department of Chemical Engineering, Univeristy of Roorkee, Roorkee, India; Singal, S. K., Indian Institute of Petroleum, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Dehradun, India; Kamei, W., Indian Institute of Petroleum, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Dehradun, India; Garg, M. O., Indian Institute of Petroleum, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Dehradun, India

Many factors influence the possibility of new fuels replacing gasoline and diesel

Keywords: [biofuels] [diesel] [alternative fuel] [CNG] [hydrogen] [LPG] [fuel synthetic fuel] [Fischer Tropsch]

Rising crude oil prices are hindering the economic expansion for many nations. Elevated energy prices are one of the main drivers for high inflation in developing nations such as India. No single alternative transport fuel can replace gasoline and diesel usage in the Indian economy. A basket of alternative fuels are needed to meet the ever increasing demand for transportation fuels. This article discusses the experimental studies conducted to evaluate alternative transport fuels—methanol, ethanol, biobutanol, methyl esters and ethyl esters from non-edible oil seeds, like jatropha carcus and karanja, along with gaseous fuels (compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas). This study also reviewed futuristic fuels such as dimethyl ether (DME), syngas—Fischer-Tropsch (FT) diesel—green diesel and hydrogen. Results showed that alternative fuels may have a great potential in reducing vehicular emissions along with lowering dependence on crude oil imports for India...."

From the other thread for Bruce in Tennessee:

Good stuff there...

A "balance sheet" crisis....good phrase there.

Steve Keen had it nailed all along...

A log slog my friends...a long slog.

Also bruce. prescient commentary on Manning a few days ago....back under the knife again. It seems "nerve regeneration" can be a little unpredictable.

@cv: i have a bias against Big-10 schools....

so, i can go along with that pick.

on that note...love how ESPN hyping up the "big game" tonight in Ann Arbor.

bleh.

Two "big name" schools who've been in decline for several years....

Awesome.

I was in a bar a few minutes ago with a "HUGE" Nortre Dame fan. He was on a rant about what happened last week and was pretty confident that Notre Dame would have a W this weekend. I have no idea what will happen, but I'm hoping for a big Michigan win.

Notre Dame is on my shit-list with the Cleveland Browns and the Boston Red Sox.

I am a big Penn State fan and I am quite annoyed by what I see in the passing game (both sides of the football).

This Michigan vs Notre Dame game is insane.

Damn. 80 yards in 30 seconds.

Can't believe ND lost that game to Michigan.

UofM was horrible in the first half.

The game itself was definitely entertaining...in a Texas High School sort of way or Div.II sort of way.

No Defense at all on either side of the ball when it mattered.

Plenty of dropped balls.

Lots of inaccurate balls from D. Robinson early.

It was a loose/sloppy game in general.

But, even those can be fun sometimes I suppose.

Hard to believe some "talking heads" were 'talking up' ND as a title contender pre-season.

Brent Mus-Sooner announces at the end: "Instant Classic folks".....

NOT.

It was a fun game, but those were some shitty teams playing some shitty defense.

Matthew said...

God, what a fucking embarrassment. I hate watching Michigan, but Notre Dame is in its own league of shitiness. Couldn't the two teams agree ahead of time to just run the football up the middle all game so it would give the appearance of some defense?

The Big Ten looked aweful today (except when Wussconsin blanked O-State).

The only thing that looked worse than the Big 10 were cv's "picks" (2-11)...

I think it was my worst day ever... But the bright spot was that one of the "correct" picks was BAMA beating Penn State...

So - as with markets... the MAX PAIN rule applies...

cv said...

That takes cv's NCAA Picks 2011 record to (6-17)... Minus 10 on 'unit picks'...

I told everyone that betting NCAA games was like a crapshoot, but not even CV is THAT bad...

Buy low peeps... BUY LOW!

If anyone out there plops $$ down on NFL games...

Here's my read on the Vegas action...

The most heavily bet games thus far are:

- Pittsburgh/Baltimore (71% on Steelers)
- Atlanta/Chicago (78% on Falcons)
- Philly/Stl (74% on Philly)

Surprisingly low thus far are the total bets on Dallas/NY Jets... Looks like the line moved to 6 (which must mean some player will not start, OR, a WHALE put a bet on the Jets, but I haven't checked the wires)...

This is all pretty typical WEEK 1 action (where the public cuddles up with last years playoff teams &/or the teams that are hyped during the preseason (like the LIONS)...

IMO... Many are waiting for tomorrow nights Miami/New England game in South Beach... EVERYBODY & THEIR BROTHER will be on New England (who will probably end up covering ANY line)...

So that means that for the sportsbooks NOT to go into a hole before tomorrow night, they need some of these lopsided games today to go their way... (Either that or they need a large basketful of the OVER/UNDERS & 'exotics' to blow up some cards to help even things out)...

Classic PUBLIC thinking is...

- Oh I can 'tease' the Steelers here (& get 7.5)
- Oh I can 'tease' the Falcons or Eagles here and all they basically have to do is win...
- Oh I can tease the Lions here and get over a TD...
- Oh I can tease the Texans down and only have to cover a FG...

More than likely, MOST of those 'sure things' will get blown up...

---

If you want to TEASE... Take the HOME TEAM that's GETTING points against a overrated opponent...

You'd get the Rams & 10... The Bears +8.5... Or, the Ravens +4.5 (where 9 times out of 10 - Steelers Ravens games are a FG)...

If it all goes to hell for the sportsbooks today... You can bet that the line on the Miami/New England game will move from 7 (now) to about 9 before kickoff...

Good Luck!

Matthew,

I agree about PSU, gotta get this QB thing worked out

how are either of those guys supposed to get into a rhythm against a defense like that when they are coming in and out.....then again, who the hell am I to question Joe Pa

they got worked though, outmatched, was pretty rough to watch

I see Colston broke his collarbone, must have been on that very last catch he made, I saw him grab his shoulder after that.....that sucks

Andy T said...

@cv.

thanks for the those thots on the NFL ...

I think my favorite game to bet on today will be the Cards v. Carolina. I think the cards are going to rip them up. give the TD.

Andy T said...

My post will come out later and serve as the monday AM thread. think that's our new schedule, especially with football back.

cv said...

@ben

Colston didn't break his collarbone on that last catch (even though, I know, it was an awkward landing, and it 'looked' like a candidate)...

Apparently, he broke it on a play he wasn't even featured in... It was the 2nd to last play of the game (the play where AJ Hawk got the pass interference call when he climbed all over Darren Sproles back)... So go figure...

---

If anyone is interested...

1. YES - CV predicted last week that Arian Foster would NOT start...

2. YES - I was 'spoofing' the "I don't know" rhetoric on my fantasy blog all week...

3. YES - I would start Ben Tate (even though Derrick Ward is being 'billed' as the starter)...

I think Tate is going to have a huge game (if not YARDS wise, TD wise)...

I'm starting Ben Tate on every fantasy team that I own him on...

---

Oh yeah... &...

GO RAVENS!!! BEAT STEELERS!!!

ben22 said...

CV,

ah, I see

either way, it's broken

I have him in two leagues so I have that going for me

Steven Jackson had a nice run this season
