Sunday Evening Commentary

Hello All,

The added "color" this evening will be lighter than usual because, like most other red-blooded Americans, I'm watching the last best weekend of American Football.

AAPL

A slide on Apple Stock was added in with this week's update. For what it's worth, I think Apple makes good products and Steve Jobs is a good CEO and they (the Company) probably have a "deep bench" and yada yada yada. However, whatever one thinks about its products can be much different than what one might think about the stock.

That's an important distinction that investors sometimes "lose sight of"....

The quickness and speed with which every "analyst" told you to "buy the dip" after the Jobs announcement was pretty strong evidence of the level of "commitment" towards APPL.

It's clearly the most "over-owned" stock on planet earth. That's not to say it can't keep chugging higher, but the stock will be exposed to rapid elevator rides lower.

For amusement sake, here was the blog discussion on Apple/Steve Jobs, etc last week at TBP: http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2011/01/steve-jobs-apple/#comments

And, here are a couple of the illuminating morsels you got from that discussion:

==========

"cognos Says:

Yeah, this is all silly… but thanks for the $10 (I buy the dip).

This is the SAME announcement as last year and really represents that Steve Jobs is a part-time CEO. He took the same 6-month leave last year, announced basically at the same time, in the same way.

Looks like the company will do $25/shr in eps this year… conservatively $35/shr next year. What will that be worth?"

=============

Thor Says:

Here’s a question – how many of you folks who think this Apple thing is just a fad own an Apple product? If so, which one’s? .....

.... Apple is a successful American company making innovative, quality products. That are the classic American Comeback story as well, I don’t understand the strong negative opinions some of you have toward this company. Some of the very same people who will now, I’m sure, call me a Fanboy. Well yes actually I am a big Apple fanboy, why would I not be? I work with this shit for a living and from a professional standpoint, Apple makes a better product, by far – period.

============

So, there you have it. That's all you needed to know. Get out there and buy, buy, buy.

The NFC game has me pissed off on many levels- the Chicago D had Rodgers # in the 2nd half- I'm certain he didn't even know where he was after the Peppers hit (and what a bullshit call . . . )

Cutler- what a quitter and a pussy . . .although I give the 3rd stringer some respect for putting in a decent effort-

Andy-

Thor may be possibly the dumbest non heterosexual walking the planet . . .

I commented on the same comment you referenced from Thor-

the dude is not bright . . .but thinks . . .because he now has his internet "friends" - that he can charge in and start making some "intelligent" commentary-

CV had Thor figured out a while ago . . .I should have listened then

Ahab.

In re: Thor. Yes. Bingo was his name-oh.

In re: the Game.

I don't know about that one. It was a blow to the head.

Also, there were some blown calls on both sides. The Bears definitely were holding when Cutler was back in the endzone. Should have been a safety.

I honestly think the Packers were the overall better team.

And, I won some dough...so this guy is happy....

That said, the Bears were "gritty" for sure. They played tougher than I had expected. And, yes, Rodgers was "off" in that second half...the bears did have his number.

The Packers Defense was pretty "ok" too...

thanks Karen

Jets defense in the first half was a real disappointment. Jets offensive playing really poor in the red zone.

When you climb those big mountains, it's the last little bit that's the toughest.

The Jets just let themselves get too far down.
~~~~~~~~~~
Haven't seen a line in the SB yet, but I'd have to guess "pick em" type line.
Andy T said...
Shit. Just checked. CV was close with his estimation. The early line I just checked has GB -2.5 pts.
I'll probably have to put $1,000 on the Packers...
nice charts AT~
Gold, easily, has been overcooked..
really agree w/ the (massive) 'rounded top'-view..
and, AAPL's Chart looks ill, too.
also, the SPX "out of Time"-thought, rings well..
~~
why didn't ol' Rex Ryan 'go for two'? to try to get within a FG of tying the Game?
even Nantz, and Simms, in the Booth, thought it curious..
as an aside Joe Buck is, absolutely, the worst Announcer on TV, no?
must have watched more than 1/2 that NFC Game with the 'Sound' off..
Going for 2 would only have made it 24-20.
I thought Phil Simms was pretty atrocious at times as well.
I think at one point he said something like this: "Sanchez' toughness has been question...because he's from California."
What the hell?!?
Has California's reputation reached such an epic low that merely being from the State means you lack toughness?
I mean..."C'mon Man!"
Jack LaLanne dead at 96.
"Going for 2 would only have made it 24-20."
right. sorry.
a subsequent TD(w/PAT) would have put them up by a FG..(was their point)-my mistake..
and, not to carry a brief for Simms--but, it could have been the 'Cold Weather'-angle he was thinking about..
Gotcha AAIP -- that makes sense -- might as well go for the 2 and have that as a benefit. If they don't get it, then it is pretty much no harm, b/c a FG is going to beat you anyway.
@Anon AAIP
Well just think... If they'd have been fouled on going for the two, they would have gotten a free throw...
Oh wait! I'm already moving into basketball :-)...
I'm not disappointed with my calls...
Bears lost almost all chance when Cutler left the game (that 3rd stringer showed ME some poise hanging in there - I think he has a future in the NFL - seriously)...
Jets really stunk it up... They were lucky to even come back a little in the 2nd half... You can bet the locker room chat at halftime (by Mike Tomlin) was... "Let's just NOT do what the Ravens did against us last week... We play conservative, don't turn the ball over, and we're goigoing to Dallas"...
GB by 2.5???
I'll take the Packers...
Steelers losing Pouncey was HUGE! (and Aaron Rodgers has had his "bogey hole" (after making a string of birdies)...
The Superbowl, frankly, may not even be close... It may be Green Bay by 2 TD's...
But, of course, all week you're going to get PUMMELED by the "thought implants" that this one will go down to the wire (because Green Bay & Pittsburgh, last year, played a "shootout" that ended up being decided on the last play of the game)...
CV said...
Oh... and my TEASE scenario came in... That was the insurance policy...
CV said...
Plus... it would be GREAT if the Packers win the Superbowl...
Then what does Obama do?
He's supposed to invite them to the White House right (to congratulate them)?...
They should just say... "F*** YOU! You're a BEARS fan & were rooting for Michael Vick against us in the playoffs... You were a big Steelers fan back in 2009 for all the work Rooney did to help you win Pennsylvania... You were going to GO TO THE SUPERBOWL if the bears beat us... PISS OFF YOU CHUMP"...
That would be CLASSIC! :-)
