Here's the lowdown...

Blistex Medicated Lip Balm has both sunscreens and skin protectants as its main ingredients. There are 25 ingredients, 22 inactive ones counting the flavoring and three active ones. This is for the original medicated lip balm in the green tube that protects against sunburn and dryness, having a sun protection factor, or SPF, of 15.

Sunscreens
While two are listed as an active ingredient, there are actually three sunscreens in Blistex. Oxybenzone, padimate O and titanium dioxide are all sunscreen agents. Oxybenzone is in a 2.5 percent concentration and helps with UVA and UVB rays and padimate O is in a 6.6 percent concentration and works on UVB rays, according to the Cosmetics Cop website. Both are listed as an active ingredient. Titanium dioxide also works as a sunscreen, lubricant and a thickener in the product, absorbing UVA and UVB rays.

Thickeners and Emollients
These ingredients have dual properties of being a thickening agent and an emollient. Thickeners bulk up a compound while emollients soften and smooth the skin. These ingredients are isopropyl myristate, isopropyl palmitate, cetyl alcohol and beeswax, according to Cosmetics Cop.

Emollient
There is one other emollient that does not alternate as a thickener. This is the ingredient lanolin, a natural moisturizer that is derived from sheep sebaceous glands, according to Cosmetics Cop.

Thickeners
There are two thickeners that do not have dual properties of being an emollient. These are paraffin and polybutene. Polybutene is derived from mineral oil and paraffin is derived from petroleum, according to Cosmetics Cop.

Lubricants
Lubricants work by giving the skin a smooth appearance and moisturizing the skin. Lubricants in Blistex Lip Balm are cetyl palmitate and isopropyl stearate, according to the Cosmetics Info website.

Skin Protectants
Skin protectants keep harmful stimuli from damaging the skin and protect it from the elements. In Blistex Lip Balm, dimethicone in a 2 percent concentration and cocoa butter are the two skin protectants, according to Cosmetics Info. Dimethicone is also listed as an active ingredient.

Emulsifiers
Emulsifiers are agents that work in forming an emulsion, or solution of blended ingredients. Candelilla wax, lanolin oil and ozokerite are the three emulsifiers in this product, according to Cosmetics Info.

Moisturizers
Moisturizers hydrate and keep the skin from drying out and peeling or cracking. Moisturizers in this Blistex Medicated Lip Balm are petrolatum and mineral oil, mineral oil being a derivative of petroleum, according to Cosmetics Cop.

Preservatives
Preservatives keep mold, yeast, fungi and bacteria from growing in a product, extending its shelf life. Propylparaben and methylparaben are the preservatives in this product, both are not formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, according to Cosmetics Info.

Cooling Agents
There are two cooling agents that will cool the lips and give it its medicated feel and scent. These are methol and camphor, according to Cosmetics Cop. While they can cause irritation with repeated use, it is fine for temporary use.

Coloring
D&C Red 6 is the coloring in the product. It approved for use in drugs and cosmetics, hence the D&C in the name, but not for food, which would have to carry a FD&C code, according to Cosmetics Cop.

Dollar getting killed. Gold and silver pushing higher. EURUSD up (why?) and oil holding 91. I guess with only three people trading anything is possible.
