Matthew,

from other thread, re: 'MMods, et al..

right? BBR had some dude on, yesterday, live from the Guggenheim (Hedge Fund Conference, he was an 'Endowment Fund' "Manager"...

LSS: He 'loves' "Real Assets"--'MMods, their Producers, Agri- Land (to rent to 'Farmers'), the whole caboodle..

to "30%" of his Port...
~~
not that I,l necessarily, disagree with his Thesis, though, the way it was presented (by him, and the 'reporter')--the breathlessness of it, the stridency, the 'one-way' attitude....

I was, like, gee, 'Convert recently?', or what?..

AAIP
~~~
that DXY chart could be looking pretty 'broken' (esp. with a little, add'l d-side accion`)
anyone have a 'good read' on that?
Seeds of Deception: Exposing Industry and Government Lies About the Safety of the Genetically Engineered Foods You’re Eating by Jeffrey M. Smith
Seeds of Destruction: The Hidden Agenda of Genetic Manipulation by William F. Engdahl
Via: New Scientist:
Scientists have both the right and a moral duty to be “stewards of God” by genetically modifying crops to help the world’s poor, scientific advisers to the Vatican said this week.
In a statement condemning opposition to GM crops in rich countries as unjustified, a group of scientists including leading members of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences is demanding a relaxation of “excessive, unscientific regulations” for approving GM crops, saying that these prevent development of crops for the “public good”..."
Fluffy....that's funny.
MEH, Will take some longer looks at the DXY and the Euro this weekend.
Been in a friggin' daze all day. Was out till 2pm. Didn't get to bed till 3AM. Woke up at 630AM to get to work. I'm a not a "young" man anymore.... that was stupid.
Michael Vick...
I think he's pretty good, but it's really hard to gauge against the atrocious Texans Defense. Guideline to FF owners: If you have a QB playing the Texans, go ahead and give them the start.
The Katy Tigers, the hometown team, play in the in the State Quarterfinals tomorrow. Would love to see two more wins for the Tigers....set up a State Finals with Euless Trinity, the #1 ranked team in the Country. (Katy is currently #10 in the country).
Have I mentioned before that HS Football is big in Texas? ha.
McFear: Thanks for the charts you sent. I'll address that count/concept/idea this weekend.
Sort of an important development in the oil markets today. June 11/Dec 11 crude flipped into backwardation. Dec 13 crude was down sharply today while the front contracts were much higher. There is "something" going on in the deferred crude contracts. We haven't seen backwardation in along time.
This is important.
>> Michael Vick...
Vick might end up a much better QB now than he ever was, because -- little did we know at the time -- Vick previously had a "side job". How do you compete at that level while distracting yourself with running a side business?
wunsacon said...
Hey, how do you guys know that "anon" above is "MEH" aka Hoffer? Is it the writing style?? The choice of subject?? (Yes, I guess there's non-trivial similarity.)
Hey there, MEH!
Andy T said...
Don't know anyone else that signs off AAIP with the truncated writing style.
One of kind, that MEH.
Double tops are one thing but triple tops? Since they ignored the weak NFP you'd figure they would close above the yearly high. Maybe Ireland will decide to go ahead and default (after elections). That should negate Bernanke's appearance on 60 Minutes.
Feds Warrantlessly Tracking Americans’ Credit Cards in Real Time
December 3rd, 2010
As bad as the information below might seem, it’s actually worse than that.
This is from 2008, but it’s a keeper: The Last Roundup: MAIN CORE.
Via: Wired:
Federal law enforcement agencies have been tracking Americans in real-time using credit cards, loyalty cards and travel reservations without getting a court order, a new document released under a government sunshine request shows.
The document, obtained by security researcher Christopher Soghoian, explains how so-called “Hotwatch” orders allow for real-time tracking of individuals in a criminal investigation via credit card companies, rental car agencies, calling cards, and even grocery store loyalty programs. The revelation sheds a little more light on the Justice Department’s increasing power and willingness to surveil Americans with little to no judicial or Congressional oversight.
For credit cards, agents can get real-time information on a person’s purchases by writing their own subpoena, followed up by a order from a judge that the surveillance not be disclosed. Agents can also go the traditional route — going to a judge, proving probable cause and getting a search warrant — which means the target will eventually be notified they were spied on...
Real Time Vs. Batch said...
Mark, There is no doubt in my mind that the government can track us, but there are a couple issues that complicate them doing it in real time.
1) The shear number of debit/credit card purchases makes it nearly impossible to track any one individual. It would be like looking for a specific needle in a needle pile.
2) Many systems use batch processing and will continue to. Besides the cost savings of using batch (For those who may not be aware of what batch is- a batch systems collects and holds data, it will hold all the data until specific time of day, normally right after normal business hours and also right after the start of business day) the banks can use software programs that move the most expensive purchase forward, so your account is drained quicker.
So even under the best of circumstances real time cc tracking is next to impossible - But the y do track us...
