This is going to sound "funny"...

But I don't trust down moves that begin on "bearish news"....

Moves down that begin after "bullish news" hits is MUCH more trustworthy.

I've been posting for over a year now that CISCO was basically doing the old LUCENT strategy in sales underwriting (and it would come back to bite them in the ass)...

Ben will back me up on that - he remembers...

So this news is NO SHOCK to CV...

CV said...

I should say "financing terms" of sales underwriting...

But who cares, nobody listens to me anyway :-)

CV said...

Anyway... As I recalled then & now...

It didn't work out so well for Lucent in the end...

CV said...

Also...

With regards to POMO (announced today)...

Frankly... I think it's already been PRICED IN...

If anything - I'll bet the effect is more of a buffer on FOREX shocks than anything else...

EurUsd & Aussie...

Trying to pre-empt a May 2010 scare... That might be the BEST EFFECT... Try to avoid the SPX going down 2 bills before Christmas...

CV, did you buy if SPX goes below 1206? Don't trust it either but that's what my 18's said.

It did do a bounce around there today...

I'm not really playing around much these days...

Not enough scratch to make it worthwhile...

sorry, not around much to read what everyone's been doing. Personally, I'm not trading much other than long swing trades but still trying to peg the day-to-day moves which is a mixture of my version of EW using 18's and support/resistance levels... sort of works until it don't... lol

Putting AI aside...

Back to my 8:14 post...

With POMO... Has anyone considered that much of the OOMPH (or energy) of these actions might actually go towards keeping CRUDE within a tight range (or at least not letting it get out of control)?

Same with other important commodities?

Again... Not that any of that is an implied certainty either...

Rather - I point it out as a mechanism to say that an outright rise in EQUITY INDICES might not be the things that plays out...

The FURTHER point is... If that happens (and AS it happens)... It sure means that we keep adding a bunch more loades springs and mousetraps into the room...

Somebody is going to come along with a ping pong ball sooner or later...

To THIS thread (in Ritzy's world)...

Back on the Kudlow Report at 7:00 pm this evening with Chris Whalen. We are discussing the Market, the Fed, and the Deficit.

For a preview, some bullet points:

Market
1. Markets look like they trade poorly, but refuse to go down. A very powerful bid is beneath
2. Stocks are reasonably priced – not cheap but not dear
3. Earnings have been very strong
4. The trend is still upwards
5. QE2: Give me a $100 billion per month, and I will throw you a helluva party.
NOTE: Only small divergences so far: 52 week high is softening, sentiment a tad bullish – but nothing is at an extreme

Bernanke’s Fed
1. QE experts? Suddenly we are a nation of amateur policy wonks
2. There are probably fewer than 100 people in the world who are qualified to discuss this intelligently in great detail (Sarah Palin ain’t one of them)
3. As a money manager, my job is to discern the impact of the Fed’s policy on equities and bonds – not analyze it for my Poli Sci final

Deficit
1. Social Security is fine – raise retirement age, raise the cut off for contributions ($106k), means test, etc.
2. Medicare is the bigger issue – prescription drugs, etc. We have the world’s most expensive, least efficient health care system (The ER)
3. Defense cuts must be on the table
4. Discretionary spending must be on table
5. AMT Tax is an issue
6. Mortgage deduction for vacation properties, boats, etc. (but I’ll bet that $500k gets raised)

~~~
I’ll Update with video when available
WTF? - All that... and NOT ONE PEEP about the DOLLAR (or any FOREX)?...
Jeez - Maybe they SHOULD bring Palin in there... Maybe she'd bring it up...
And despite any thoughts on that... What evidence is there (after two years) that OBAMA is any more "qualified" to talk about economic matters that Sara Palin...
Or fucking Bristol Palin for that matter...
Jesus Herman Christ!
Caught this comment on the internet on the link at top:
Not a meaningful article as it only addresses those who make more than $150k.
What % of federal workers make $150k?
I am sure that Lou Mish will have something to say about this terrible offense of paying people what they are worth rather than what the corporate world pays them.
November 10, 2010 7:23 PM
---
The last few lines there say a great deal about where this country is at right now. People stating that higher wages for Federal employees are justified because the government knows what people are worth.
Fascinating stuff.
Katie Holmes!! Cant' act for beans! So sorry I even clicked on those links.. She has the worst shaped legs.. terrible posture.. zero taste.. Every now and then, I see a nice foto of her face.. she takes make-up well, in other words.. For me, she is about as unsexy as a young girl can get.. Reece Witherspoon has more sex appeal.. or even Kirsten Dunst.. and at least they can act.
Andy, I don't know how you will ever redeem yourself on that one.
She may be a lovely person however..
AR, futures are making me ill... OH MY, almost forgot to tell!!! The girl that paints my toes tonight was telling me that her sister phoned in a panic.. they needed to buy gold and she wanted her sister to watch this DVD..
Well, CV.. I thoroughly enjoyed the Rupaul video, even if I didn't get your point.. and I was reminded of a new word: SASHAY..
@ahab
My "pay" is to hear good ideas from intelligent people... (which happens daily - except in the cases of people who keep ideas to themselves [who are freeloading to some extent])...
The little "exercise" that we're doing tonight (going back and looking at previous posts), is an example of my EXPLICIT GOAL to create things that have a distinctive "time stamp" on them...
For example... In my mind, I could exactly recollect (almost to the day), the threads I'd referenced...
Why?
Because I place a "time stamp" on EVERYTHING in pop culture...
Nobody remembers what the DOW closed at on July 16th, 1974... (if blogs had existed - nobody would have ever remembered the chump ass reporting either)...
-But they DO remember that Nixon resigned on August 8th, 1974...
Let's do a "off the top of my head" random test:
- July 20, 1969
- January 28, 1986
- November 9, 1989
- November 4, 2008
- November 4, 1979 (I'm making this easy people)
- February 22, 1980
- October 19, 1987 (easy for people here)
- May 18, 1980
- September 11, 2001 (c'mon man)
- December 8, 1980
How many of those did you get? ANSWERS TOMORROW...
Furthermore - do you remember WHERE YOU WERE - or WHAT YOU WERE DOING on those days...
I do...
I'd kind of like this blog to be that way... Not every day is RECORD SETTING... But if you link ICONS to your reporting - people remember things...
It's not about stupid comments, or stupid stocks, stupid asset prices, stupid Fed Charmen, stupid Presidents, stupid elections (well - sometimes - but that's fleeting)...
Get the picture? (hope so - because that's, IN FACT, what it is... A PICTURE)...
CV said...
@karen
I'll agree with you on Kirsten Dunst (CV has a secret crush)...
Reece Witherspoon? MEH... Does nothing for me in the way of 'sexuality' (but - suprisingly - I think she can ACT)...
CV said...
@karen
The RUPAL video was only posted to tie about 6 different loose ends together...
Let me put it to you in a simple way...
- It does NOTHING for anyones aggregate understanding of things...
- But it SOLVES various "karmic unwritten scripts" in CV's mind... A place NOBODY should dare go...
AmenRa said...
Don't sweat futures. Fair value is 1-2-1-6 for the SPX. So they are down more than you think.
