WEEKEND EDITION - Happy Father's Day

Every person in the world has their personal family stories to tell, so I'm not going to corner you all and bore you with mine...

Well, yes I am... LOL (But I promise to make it short)...

One year, when I was still a little kid, for Father's Day we gave my dad this cardboard crown (that they were giving away as a promotion at Burger King)... I don't think it was a promotion for Father's Day in particular, just, you know... "Burger King"... Well, you figure it out... Anyway it was a classic crown looking thing (cardboard on the inside, but gold paper [sound familiar/] on the outside)...

All I can say is that on Fathers Day, for every year thereafter until I was out of the house (which was more than a decade of time passing)... My Dad used to saunter down the steps to the breakfast table singing "Hail to the Chief" and wearing that crown...

It was one of those rites...

Everyone simply HAD to be assembled (not by law or anything - but it was a spectacle that nobody EVER wanted to miss)... Hell - after a few years, we'd all join in in CHORUS on the "Hail to the Chief" part...

The big mystery was, how he ever kept that crown in pristine condition all those years... I mean, it was in as good a shape (after more than a dozen years) as it was was on the first day...

CV could later attest that it was NOT kept pressed between the pages of the Playboy Magazines... Although those too were kept hidden from sight, their location was easily smoked out by an eager teenager...

Anyway, my Dad has gone off to the next kingdom, but he's never stopped being part of this one...

And to the rest of you "Dads" out there, (including Andy - who will be taking this Sunday off to be with his family), HAPPY FATHERS DAY

  3. Amen Ra -- there's a lot of buzz out there about the "triple doji" precursor to a crash. I know you said Friday's body was too big for a doji. Any opinion on the triple doji theory? Thanks!

Multiple doji days indicate massive indecision. BUT too many of them and the meaning is lost.

The last three days on the SPX are very close to a tri star pattern but the middle doji day should be higher than the first and last doji days.

  8. Beautiful story CV...my dad passed away four years ago...and you have me shedding a tear today (a bit of delayed mourning there, I suspect...not that I mind. He once surprised me with the following: "How come women always get flowers and I never get any? I wouldn't mind, you know."

This is a guy who volunteered in '39...subsequently spending five years behind a 40mm Bofers...and losing his best friends in France. The only time he ever shed a tear in public was at the Arizona Memorial...so let's not mention "Arlington" again...lots of dads there and a faux pas I don't understand.

Anyway...he was always there for me when the chips were down. A toast to all great dads everywhere!

  24. Well China said they would, and then left the USDCNY unchanged for Monday and weakens the Yuan vs the Euro. Markets falling again. What a joke.

  37. The China currency "news" is a real laugher isn't it? Indeed, it's all the buzz this morning. Any way, as was discussed last week, market was going higher anyway....

We'll see what today can offer up in the option spaces....I wanted to at least get a small new position on in the 1120's so looks like today will be the day for that.

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/economy/california-on-verge-of-system-failure/article1609891/

California on 'verge of system failure’

“We have to get some federal money,” argued Ms. Ross of the California Budget Project. “The impact [of the Schwarzenegger budget] would be enough to slow down the U.S. economy. It would be bad for the U.S. and, arguably, bad for the world to do the shock therapy approach.”

If you want good schools, you have to pay for them,” she said. “Cutting taxes doesn’t raise revenue.”

That kind of talk angers Kris Vosburgh, executive director of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, named after the L.A. homeowner who led the Prop. 13 campaign and dedicated to ensuring it’s never overturned. He said California is a high-tax state with generously paid government workers, and recession-weary taxpayers have no money to pay more.

“The bank is empty,” Mr. Vosburgh complained.

“We have tried to be all things to all people and we can’t afford to do that any more.”
