I still like the idea of being short here despite today's nice looking bounce...the only thing that makes me nervous is the DXY...that was a real punk day in Greenback land.

Goes to show those punks...

Now ~ if they'd used their college scholarships to earn BUSINESS DEGREES (where the TRUE value of 'Keynesian' economics & fractional reserve fiat is taught to, & understood by graduates) ~ they might all have become successful traders & assured themselves a lifetime of financial success & strees free living on the back of CENTRAL PLANNING monetary policy...

Well the SPX didn't reverse up on the daily 3LB (but did get back above the weekly 3LB mid). It also held SMA21 which has been a line in the sand in the past.

They don't need to be traders. Just someone to teach them how to use their money to make money. Buying land, munis (of the city they're playing in), corp bonds (of their sponsors), etc. Nothing too fancy but enough to insure they aren't broke a few years after retiring.

@Amen

As does most everyone on this blog... You entirely miss my point...

Munis? Corp bonds? Stocks? (IOW ~ any "asset class" valued in FIAT)?

Interesting thing about FIAT... It makes you 'feel' wealthy while it sits there on an accounting ledger... (& oddly, the larger that number grows, the 'smarter' you often feel)...

& generally, it tends to work... That is... UNTIL IT DOESN'T...

But I'M SURE this time is different (which makes cv the 800 pound IDIOT in the room)...

Sorry for the interlude...

cv said...

~~~
"Money" does not MAKE money (or, I should say IT DOES, but if it does, it is not WEALTH, it is only more money)...
The problem with people is that they confuse "capital" with "money"...
"Capital" is the investment in infrastructure which produces goods upon the application of labor...
"Money" is the proprietary attempt to control the flow of capital (skimming a portion thereof), which eventually leads to mis-appropriation of said capital & said labor...
cv said...
Unless you're going to tell me that "Mr. Market" is the thing that is the gatekeeper of that "flow of capital"...
I know about a year ago peeps thought muni's might not be good but VCV seems to keep chugging upwards. That last BIG dip in VCV I bot a bunch. Div and price has been good... for how long though.
"Portuguese government bond yields rose on Friday as the country looked to be the next weakest link in the euro zone's sovereign debt crisis.
Representatives of the European Commission have been in Spain to evaluate its 2011 budget deficit which came in much higher than expected, while the country has defied the EU and softened this year's budget deficit target.
"Does it not seem a vast waste of valuable human material that the pioneers of thought, those who by their genius dare to clear unknown paths in the arts and sciences and in government, should have to conform to the dictates of that non-creative, slow-moving mass, the majority? An appeal to the majority is a resort to force and not an appeal to intelligence; the majority is always ignorant, and by increasing the majority we multiply ignorance. The majority is incapable of initiative, its attitude being one of opposition toward everything that is new. If it had been left to the majority, the world would never have had the steamboat, the railroad, the telegraph, or any of the conveniences of modern life."
1. Calculate 75% copper value :
(3.8326 × .00220462262 × 5.00 × .75) = $0.0316849
2. Calculate 25% nickel value :
(8.5622 × .00220462262 × 5.00 × .25) = $0.0235951
3. Add the two together :
$0.0316849 + $0.0235951 = $0.0552800
$0.0552800 is the melt value for the 1946-2012 nickel on March 09, 2012.
@Amen
Did you pay for your seeds with silver/gold? How about can goods? Your tilapia farm? Your bills? Nothing wrong with having PMs but until that day comes you still need money (fiat).
Status report on that (if you're truly interested)...
SEEDS
Not much of a need for fiat, silver, or gold to "purchase" them anymore... After successive generations on what I like & use... It's pretty much all "heirloom" at this point... IOW ~ I'm basically using seeds that I harvested from the previous years (& previous years harvests)...
I oughtta start a seed company... Trouble is, I'd have to probably accept fiat as payment at the moment & I'm not altogether interested in that (though it has it's moments)...
TILAPIA
Is a project that, "operationally", had a down year last year... I think I probably said it here on the blog, but the Maryland property is now sold (closing as of 3 weeks ago)... For anyone that still believes in the REAL ECONOMY, here's how that went down... You're talking Howard County, Maryland (3rd richest county in the US by some metrics)... We basically got full asking price for the property, but not after EXHAUSTIVE renovation to the property (mostly done by yours truly (except where "pro-contractor" seals of approval were needed which is par for the course in a stuffy regulative environment such as Maryland)... "Radon" (fucking "Radon")?... YGTBFKMe... So what happens?... You pay $1,000 to get a Radon do-hickey put at the location of your sump... & how does that work?... Frankly I dunno, But all I can see is a pipe which now extends out of the basement and up the side of the house, & now is about 2 meters UNDER the bedroom window of the new owners house (where their 6 year old sleeps)... "We're from the government & we're here to help!...
Anyway, the "nursery" for the tilapia operation was THERE (while the fish were at the farm)... Unless I wanted to have fish living in PODS containers last year, I had to shut it down until I was fully re-situated... Of course, since THERE IS NO FARM, I'm actually homeless at the moment, so don't be offended by anything I say because it DOESN'T EXIST (because I don't, IN FACT, have an internet connection)...
Lastly on the BUYERS... The house went on the market in late October & we had a buyer in mid-December... Green Beret & spouse military disability benefits... Ft. Meade is very close (which is also NSA ~ wink, wink)... There are also 3 other families who live on the same cul-de-sac (who are "wink wink", plus a couple 3 lots away that are JCOS brass... But now that I told you all that I'll have to kill you (if they don't kill me first)...
~CONTINUED
CV said...
PM's
Oddly ~ Wednesday I had to go back to HoCoMD... I've already laden you all with my EXASPERATING stories of trying to buy gold & silver back in December but got turned away by the 3 local coin shops...
Anyway ~ I had some fiat burning a hole in my pocket so I took a chance & stopped in a coin shop "en route" and bought some more ASE's... Interestingly, (& I didn't know this before), but you don't have to pay MD sales tax on purchases under $1,000 (so I bumped up the purchase price accordingly & ended up with about 28 oz.)...
For the record, at this point I don't really care at what PAPER PRICE I buy Ag bullion at...
Amusingly, I stopped by "whimsically" because of two factors...
- I happened to be driving by & figured I'd save some gas & time...
- I'd read a comment from a Dr. Lusciouslips the day before about gold being DOWN "fiats" the day before... If there's anything I've learned in my blogging career... Dr. Lusciouslips is an instant fade...
~~~

Oh... The story doesn't end there (& here, AMEN, I bow you your fiat wisdom)... I stopped by "BJ's" (y'all know ~ the big box retailer ~ aka TEAR OUR WRISTS headquarters, or OUGHT to be)...

I go there to stock up (sometimes, walking away with nothing)... Anyway ~ I always pass by the meat section (seeing as I have 5 full freezers running on relatively low watts & powered by "off the grid" solar (which also addresses the BILLS part of Amen's query)...

They were trying to push "SHOULDER CUTS" @ $2.49 a pound (calling them "London Broil" ~ which anyone who knows anything knows that LB is not a cut of meat it's a method of cooking)... Anyway ~ I wasn't interested because I knew I had a decent amount of that in stock (besides the 2 live steer in the adjacent meadow)... But as I scanned left to right (full right being the more premium cuts), I noticed that a 13 pound slab of NY cuts was MISLABELED (it had a "shoulder cuts" price on it)... Well ~ I don't have to tell you the rest other than to say by the time that they're cut into 1 inch steaks... & the $32 I paid for the whole thing... Can I say "DOLLAR MENU"?

Combined with the addition of the silver bullion... IT WAS A GOOD DAY...

@Mark

To answer your question more specifically (now tht I know what you're driving towards)...

YES ~ ASE's trade at a premium (it was $3.49 over spot vs. $2.99 over spot on Canadian Maples & Mooses, or even $1.49 over spot over generic rounds)...

Here's the thing... I kind of have LESS of ASE's than anything else in the collection (the bulk of which is 100 oz bricks &, believe it or not, & ton [not literally] of pure silver that I won in golf tournaments in Italy over a long period of time)... I have a lot of JUNK too (Andy T ~ being a small counterparty to that thanks to the Baltimore Ravens...

I was light on the ASE's... & besides... I was only spending $1,000 in fiat, so another BRICK was not in reach & they actually didn't have enough Maples, Moose's, Panda's, or Koalas in stock to meet the order...

ASE's it was... therefore... & frankly, I think they're the prettiest of all... I think I've become MY DAD... He was always in love with the old "walking liberty" quarters (which I can't argue are exquisite in design)...

so there you have it...

2nd... He's a fucking idiot (& while I don't usually have time to indulge in responding to idiot logic, it DOES serve a purpose towards "codifying" logic streams... The mass public finds that useful sometimes)...

I'm NOT representing myself as the LOGICAL one in that debate... I'm only representing myself as the dissenting voice (because most people are either too lazy or cowardly to do so)...

cv IS NOT the "truth"... cv is more like the "event horizon"...

cv said...

@QQQQ (aka "18)

Your "10~something" post (above) on the melt price of nickles...

Again ~ you're missing the point (along with Dr. Lusciouslips)...

First of all, you don't really MELT nickles... In a pinch, there's enough malleability in the copper content to SWAGE (fucking "look it up" ~ I'm tired of these lectures) in a dire pinch...

Mostly though, is the history of coinage... FIAT ALWAYS COLLASPSES... ALWAYS!...

FRN's (I'm saying this for about the brazillionth time)... are DIFFERENT from "minted coinage"...

As result... WHEN the US "petrodollar"" collapses (& it will), a new currency will be issued... OLD FRN's will have zero value (or ~ will be reconfigured to be valued at the new currency, whether that be 50%, or 1% or whatever, depending on how far the ponzi is allowed to extend [which pretty much started in 1971, but passed the event horizon at Jackson Hole 2010])...

So, for example, a US nickle (which is NOT a FRN ~ it is US coinage) will still be recognized as 5 cents on the dollar of whatever THE DOLLAR eventually is... Paper will be worth NOTHING (except its degraded convertibility ~ mostly 'electronic' for all you TRADERS out there)...

Prices RESET... But if a paper dollar resets, say, 100-1 (hell, it was 100 trillion to one in Zimbabwe & I can't recall the Weimar figures)... A nickle will still be worth 1/20th of "a dollar" (or whatever the PAR value of the new currency is)... This has ALWAYS HAPPENED historically...

At this stage in the game, you can't make the case for pennies, dimes, & quarters (because ALL have been downgraded with regards to metal content ~ mostly zinc [while Canada is talking about going to "steel" ~ which is akin to NUMEROUS civilizations morphing to IRON coinage when the paper ponzi was over])...

WTF ever... Do what you want... Hey ~ Dr. "Lusciouslips" seems to be an advocate of ISRAEL bombing the shit out of Iran (you know ~ to PREVENT them from having a nuke... COUGH COUGH... to FORCE Iran to have a Goldman controlled central bank, whilst stealing their gold & oil)...

So assuming he's RIGHT (& RIGHTEOUS)... We'll have many more years of petrodollar hedgemony based on "force projection" of US military (as well as AIPAC lobbying in Washington)...

Hopefully then, there will be YEARS more of opportunities to buy crude etf's with paper and selling them 2 days later to book losses which exceed the perceived aggregate savings from Prius purchases a few years prior...

Don't you just love "capitalism" & "self-destructionism"?...

but in the meantime, while buying a breakfast burrito a bit ago, I could have given the clerk a $50 gold coin and got $40+ in change. Or I really doubt she'd have the gold coins in her register to pay the balance at current gold value... so I passed her a 20 spot and we went from there.

Yeah... Good luck in actually trading that top & being able to redeem all your paper into viable currency during the bank holidays that will be part in parcel of that occurrence...

I'm sure everyone here has first hand experience in how to navigate all of that so my words are useless...

Not that I don't waste keystrokes otherwise on this blog... (especially with my 3 period endings to sentences)...

any more questions? (until you want to know what my brackets will look like ~ which I admit are WORSE than peace prize winning "O-BOMB-US-es" have been in recent years?

Or ~ would you all just like to patiently wait for KAREN to return to the blog to offer trading advice?

You know...

- The karen that is ONLY not here because cv has turned into a dick since Jackson Hole '10...

- The karen that everyone pines about these days because once upon a time they either wanted to see what she was trading (&/or get a foto cap of in her panties)...

- The fact that nobody rememberes that karen, multiple times, expressed that her 'trading account' was such that she could not short stocks... (which means that unless she used some kind of ETF collective, her 'shorting' sentiments were relatively useless)...

-

Nikkei 10,000 bitchez!... Get back to work... (whilst not forgetting that cv articulated the sudden divergence of EURO:GOLD on today's candle)... Carry on...

You always have "Dr. Lusciouslips" to tell you when (or when NOT ~ as the case may be) to go PAPER LONG crude (based on prognostications of when, or when not the WHUPPIN STICK will be put in Iran by his friend NET & YAHOO)...

I ended up selling my NON-EXISTENT country house in Italy, to a "Knight of the British Crown"... A "Sir"... (who basically was the head, seriously, of the FAA in England)... in 2005... for TOP DOLLAR (on the property)...

So I applaud "FAA" Administrators" worldwide... (Oh yes ~ & he, "Sir FAA"... was on the council of the LONDON 2012 OLYMPICS bis, as well)... So he was obviously one of the "brightest& sharpest light bulbs" in the TOOL box...

re: COT, I know what it is but not sure how to read the charted data. Didn't seem to relate to the markets most of the time. I'll look into it more this weekend.

It's "odd" that seemingly nobody recognized that "18" was "QQQQ" until now...

CV did... LONG AGO (& I mean "real long ago" ~ because, FRANKLY, "not" that I'm a VEDIC or anything... But I DO, actually, read people's posts, I try to understand what they're saying)...

Odd that other opinionated persons never bothered to INVEST that time...

you have to pull the COT data apart, the absolute numbers each week aren't worth anything

you have to look at relative levels

its better than sentiment imo, where people give opinions in most of the surveys, COT shows what people have actually done

b22 said...

CV,

is anyone supposed to buy your 4:12?

are you trying to imply that once again we should all bow down and respect your greatness? That all your wonderful deeds continue to go unnoticed?

Know what doesn't go unnoticed?

When people have an opinion that differs from yours, all you can respond with is total disrespect and a lot of hot air. I suppose in your attempt to understand everyone here you do things like you did a month or three ago when Q's traded in some of his gold for something that he was doing for someone else. You were just trying to "understand what he was saying" when you jumped down his throat and called him a fool for having gotten rid of the gold before you even asked him why he did it. In fact, you never asked him, he just told you.

People can't even make a comment about sports here without you screaming the word FIAT.

usually people that are trying to understand others do more listening than talking, more conversation occurs than shouting down, and they also don't call people fools for doing certain things when they don't have the slightest idea about the motivation behind what they did.

b22 said...

CV,

We shall see, they have 0 bench

cv said...

@ben (4:27)

Come on man!... Are you REALLY, SERIOUSLY going to make me dig that up?

Both you & AAIP made posts (today), towards the dual identity of QQQQ...

I knew about that... I'm not really sure when (but it was as early as last summer ~ & probably before... NOT because I was astute ~ but because QQQQ openly admitted such, that he was "18")...

Don't be a fucking douche...

~~~
I (cv) respond with 'disrespect' & 'hot air' (as you call it), because you really don't have a fucking clue...
FIAT (as you know it), will be DEAD within your lifetime... I've only alluded towards that on these blogs (but I have stated it DIRECTLY in my personal e-mails to you ~ whereby I also called you A FRIEND)...
There's hardly anything you (or the other TRADERS on this blog) can do about it because...
- you DENY the inevitability of such (against insurmountable odds ~ even though you call yourselves "TECHNICAL" traders)...
- Everything that you stand for, (have professed in words on this blog, or in consultations with clients), is predicated on an UNTENABLE dynamic extisting for "x" timeframe in the future, to continue...
The only "BETS" on this blog are being made with respect to TIME (not price levels)...
IOW ~ How long can the FIAT game continue to "work" (& "pay me", as the case may be)... Before it all blows up?...
cv is here to provide the "sanity" voice to that argument...
The fact that I find a small audience of listeners only proves to me that there are few SANE people still around (especially when I consider that I considered the same crowd mildly "intelligent" PRE-JACKSON HOLE '10)...
cv said...
Tarheels... I think... Will make it to the Final Four...
I'm undecided about Kentucky (another #1 seed)...
I'm doubting Syracuse or Kansas will make it...
I like Ohio State & Georgetown as being (not-#1 seeds to get to the final four)... I'm not going to make a link, but when the brackets are out, I'll eventually make a BRACKET PICK post on my sports blog (which is the same blog that DOESN'T BOTHER getting hyped up about Israel nuking Iran because of the fucking absurdity of the notion unless you're a headline freak trying to make a name for yourself)...
b22 said...
"Don't be a fucking douche.."
always classic coming from you
now I realize the BSB video was in reference to yourself, lol
and your "voice of sanity"....what do you think you know that everyone here doesn't? My god man, talk about being full of yourself.
and of course, of course! its all about paper again....
PATHETIC
and you can blabber on all you like about my denial of such things, long before I ever knew of your existence I was well aware of all the things you constantly go on and on and on about
so here we are.....what happened is you "quit" the blog again (you've easily passed Jay-Z in "retirements" at this point), spent a couple days trying to come up with a new way to spin yourself and then you showed back up with a bunch of the same old tired stuff and a new line of semantics: "you aren't betting on price you are betting on time"
FAIL
btw, I made a giant stack of cash trading in February, it's been a monster year, laughing my ass off, think I'll go buy a bunch of stuff with it, since EVERYONE still accepts dollars and people all over the world run toward them every time there is a crisis.
b22 said...
and for the record, the amount you know about what is said in my meetings with clients is, exactly
0.00
oh, and you entirely missed the point about Q's/18's
I don't care about his "dual identity", and I really don't need you to "dig anything up" everyone here knows how you treat people, Q's included, as if it matters or holds any meeting that "last summer" you realized they were one in the same....wow.
You called it! that better?
I bet, 1,000 years ago when people didn't have American Idol and other things to keep themselves entertained they sat around and talked about the SAME THING every day, all day long, and if anyone tried to change the subject, hopefully they were muzzled, and fast.
finally, much to their delight, one day someone showed up (nomad) and provided a voice of sanity for these poor people, letting them know that the world would one day end, it was...inevitable.
oh, the wonders they performed with such knowledge
