@Amen Ra

Sorry peeps, Wed. & Thursday are my "baaaahhhhd" days for replying quickly... Not that anyone really cares...

From last thread...

$35 is the midpoint of the silver two day massacre back in September 2011. But that still leves the other two day masacre from August 2011 to deal with. This will not be easy.

BINGO-RAMA! (give that man a prize)!...

I'm going to have to find it (because it applies here)... But I made almost that EXACT statement on Zero Hedge (when Ag pushed back above $30 back in January)...

Of course... 90% of ZH'ers are silver whores, so when I made the comment that 'technically speaking' it might only visit $36 (because of the gap in the middle of the two days that yo refer to here)...

I GOT JUNKED TO HIGH HEAVEN...

I'll try to dig up the comment I made...

Amen Ra, I think, is the only one who actually knows my secret code name at ZH... (which I acknowledged here on this blog one day many moons ago)...

Watch out for Amen Ra... He is the crafty one...

I still reminisce about the old summer '09 'Ritholtz blog' dayz when I used to quiz the "Ra" about what the hell a 3LB was behind the 'watchful eye' of Ritholtz the magnificent... lulz...

Ra... DJCV thinking (on a Thursday 70 degree night on the east coast... IN FEBRUARY)...

No... my house ("non-existent farm" as the case may be [so get your facts straight ~ lulz]) is not bulletproof")...

I've actually had that hypothetical discussion before on these blogs...

If my memory serves me correctly, the discussion was actually with THOR (which should give you an idea as to how far back the topic goes because I think it's more than 18 months now since I've even logged on to that idiot blog [which I'm not sure even exists anymore])...

Anyway... My vague recollection of that discussion was me giving Thor the business about the hypothetical 'zombie apocalypse' & how I felt (rightfully or falsely so) more safe being in the Appalacians than in West Hollywood...

Of course, AS ALWAYS... He was quick to point out to me how WRONG I was (even though I lived for 13 years in and around West Hollywood & have otherwise been to over 45 countries in the world & lived abroad for 12 years & he has never even so much as 'sniffed' West Virginia)...

CV,

the husband and wife they showed first on the one I watched last night had a bulletproof house, enough food for 22 people for 15 years and even a backup secret location that they could "bug out" to in a tricked out school bus, they had built their home out of 9 shipping containers and in the form of a castle, then they had all kinds of junk, I mean it basically looked like a junkyard around it...which was on purpose

he had an amazing set up really, it was wild, guy was in vietnam, seemed like a smart guy to me

think it was about 35 miles outside of San Antonio they said, the second secret location was such that they would never need to go close to a city,

these people had all kinds of stuff planned out, it was quite the operation

b22 said...

they even made a point to say they would never use wood fires, since you can smell wood burning from miles away, but I can't even remember now what they were using instead

b22 said...

what was most fascinating to me is that while he stated all kinds of things they were preparing for, he made a point to say what prompted him to think about all this was his time in vietnam, saying that when it fell it was absolute chaos there, and he wanted to be prepared for something like that

never once do I recall him saying anything about the economy

so thats really interesting to me, lots of people are doing things like this but people have all different motivations for it, they showed folks on previews that were talking about super-volcanos and all kinds of stuff and so I have to wonder what kind of impulse in the human brain, if such a thing is going on, would cause that kind of action from larger and larger numbers at various times throughout history

and we get to live through it, so we all got that going for us.....

& it's VERY HARD for cv to be swayed...

Here is a foto (I absolutely shit you not)... taken from about 200 yards from the backyard of my country house in Italy (where I lived for 12 years)...

From my backyard, the vantage point of this foto was around a "double u turn curve" (plus up [higher] by about, I'd say six 'stories' in height (however many feet that is)...

I used to walk with my dog "Chappi" every day up that incline & several miles into the backhills (so I can accurately calculate the distance)...

On that road was an old "cave" the served as a refrigeration & storage unit for midevial travelers during the late Roman Empire between Rome & Ravenna (an important "salt mining" spot on the Adriatic geographically south of Venice)... They dug canals to flood water in from the sea & then dry it to harvest the salt...

Of course, "salt" now comes in Morton's jars now with a little girl & an umbrella on it... Besides that... SALT IS BAD FOR YOU!

I really can't wait to see that show (& what people do)...

You motivated me... I'm going to DVR the things & watch them when I get a chance...

I'm pretty sure it's all going to just be 'amusement' for me... NOT that I think I can defend a house any better than a SEAL or a green beret or something... I wouldn't even fucking try...

This goes back to the argument I had with 'Thor' many moons ago... He tried to break down the argument (as I would also ~ to it's BRASS TACKS, so I don't discredit him for applying that logic)...

Anyway ~ If someone wants to shoot & kill me over a loaf of bread, then FINE, that's my fate...

GOD determines that... NOT ME...

The reason I like my chances where I'm at has simply to do with 'odds'... I'm going to do the best I can to put probability in my favor... I'm sure you apply the exact same logic to your portfolio positions...

You know it's not bulletproof... I know what I'm doing isn't bulletproof... But you put out your best PLANNED effort...

You & I are a lot more alike than it seems reading these comments...

I'll tell you something... the first time I heard of people building houses out of old shipping containers I thought that was absolutely BRILLIANT!...

If the situation were right... I'd do the same thing... The best thing I have going for me (at the "non-existent farm" is LOCATION)... There are, arguably BETTER ones... But this will do for now...

I'm going to tell you something... It is fucking HARD AS SHIT to 'Doomsday prep' (if that's what you want to call it)...

I've probably been at it for over 5 years now & if I could give you a GRADE on my level of PREP... I'd probably say I'm at a C+ lever (vs. where I'd "like" to be)...

- half of it is materials
- but the KNOWLEDGE part of it is not a fast learning curve... You basically have to UNLEARN everything you ever learned in your life...

Frankly... at this point I could care less...

At the time... (on this blog)... I was "pussyfooting" around with the idea that if the folks on THIS BLOG ever read some of my comments THERE (ZH)... They would immediately classify me as:

- anti-semitic
- homophobic
- racist

Which, in fact... I'm not... AFTER ALL... My "OSCAR" picks... this year are:

- TWO African American women as BEST ACTRESS & BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS in those categories...

- A "silent film" OTHER actor in the BEST ACTOR CATEGORY (which I also support for BEST PICTURE)...

- A man... (Christopher Plummer)... Playing an old man who "came out of the closet" to his son... as he's diagnosed with a terminal illness... as the best SUPPORTING ACTOR winner...

& well... just for the hell of it... I tossed 'Martin Scorcese' in there too (BEST DIRECTOR)...

But NOBODY gives a FF about those... Nobody even WATCHES films these days... right?... They have NOTHING TO DO WITH SOCIOECONOMICS (right ben?)...

There's only ONE REASON to have the Oscars anymore... & that's so a plastic surgeon can tell me how FOS I am (even though he's never even seen any of the movies)...

Anyway ~ "karen" used to like my OSCAR'S picks... Hell ~ She and her friends "dress up" & drink champagne to watch the show...

cv, Last word on the silver thing from me. I just find it hard to believe that those 3 coin shops wouldn't sell you any silver stuff, unless they were out. They're in the business of selling stuff. That's all. I buy and sell often throughout the last decade and have never found anyone out of silver or gold PM's. And it's not that I don't believe you, like I said, it defies logic "they", who are in the business wouldn't sell.

B22, only reason I push that kid to get into a Roth is to teach him how easy it is. Talked to him again about $500 in for last year and one month later put in another $500 for this year... he doesn't think he should do it now because he'll have time later. Tried to show him why starting with a little each year now is better than "catch-up" later. I gave up! He doesn't understand how important the 50% match up to 8% of his salary for a 401K donation works. He's just out to have fun and whatever happens later... happens. Gonna put him in the ID-ten-T club and stop trying.

question, if net inflows out of the SPY is this, why is the SPX still doing so well? (changed dates from 1/1/12 to 2/22/12)

I suggested that 'spot' prices might stay depressed for quite a bit (I actually was SPOUTING 'Andy T - isms')... & seriously saying that it might hit $20 & that $30 might not be seen until late 2012...

I swear I'm not making this up...

Oh...

That "fabrication" of a story that I published on this blog yesterday (about 1987-88 Brazilian "cruzados") NEVER HAPPENED EITHER... Even though it happened JUST AS 'Paolo & Monica' were just getting together at 'RUNNER" Health & Fitness (a club that DOESN'T exist in Sao Paolo & Rio & whose owner 'Marfaro' has a helicopter & a house on an island off the coast of Brasil named 'Islia Bella' doesn't exist either)... Not to mention his 600 horsepower motorboat which we bolted around the island, or the fucking PARROT that he had in the house (who learned to speak my namke after a few days... OR... THIS IS MY FAVORITE... That 'Marfara' also had an airplane that HE FUCKING LET ME FLY... I swear ~ I almost landed this fucking thing on 'Uba Tuba' (a beachfront landing strip)... We landed ~ drank about 6 NON-EXISTENT 'Antarctica' beers, then got back in the plane)...

Of course... NONE OF IT EVER HAPPENED...

The Brazilain 'REAL' is what it ALWAYS was...

Keep telling yourself that...

Sorry ~ I just have a crazy vivid mind...

http://bonsmomentosacademias.wordpress.com/fotos/

Anyway ~ my man 'Marfara' (the oligarch club owner) had a business relation with PAN-AM...

An airline which TRULY DOESN'T EXIST anymore (so you have that going for you)...

On the way back... Me & Candice (pronounced "CAN-dee-say" by the locals ~ who didn't exist) had to do this "non-existent" TV promotion for a new club opening in RIO...

I swear to god it was 200 degrees in that tight space (because of the tight bodies and heat of the "non-existent" television cameras)... We both thought we were going to pass out...

We got thru it... & it was literally the last few hours befoe our NON EXISTENT flight back to the NON EXISTENT UNITED STATES...

I was fucking "starving" & made the EPIC mistake to buy a tuna fish sandwich from a street vendor...

Rio to Miami... Then Miami to Los Angeles (both NON EXISTENT cities)...

FUCKING FIRST CLASS (becauise of the 'Marfara' connection)... I spent the whole time puking in the PAN AM lavatory...

Ain't life grand (when you can 'make shit up' like I diod just there)?

"Brian Westbury on CNBC on, 12/24/2007, “The US Equity market is about 25% undervalued today.” S&P500 at the time 1496

Brian Westbury on CNBC on, 1/22/2008, “There is really no evidence that the economy has turned over” “Initial unemployment claims were at 301 thousand in the latest reporting week. This is so far from a recessionary level I’m like, I’m shaking my head at anybody who thinks we’re in a recession.”
Already 1 month into the great recession

Brian Westbury on CNBC on, 1/24/2008, “Well I’ve never felt like we even came close to a recession, nor would we come close to a recession”
as above

Brian Westbury on CNBC on, 3/20/2008, “We’re not going to have a recession. In fact the economy is going to finish the year on a very, very strong note……Our forecasts say about 2% growth here in the first quarter and probably about one to one and a half in the second quarter. So we think we’re going to avoid anything that looks like a recession this year, yeah there’s some weak data right now, ahh but to me it does not look like recessionary kinds of data.”
3 months into recession

Brian Westbury on CNBC on, 5/30/2008, “I think the thing that’s different here, is that it’s now very clear that the economy, at least to me, is going to avoid a recession that the Fed is now done cutting rates dramatically, in fact may be raising rates pretty soon and that’s a whole different environment and that’s I think good for the stockmarket which means the economy is stronger and is also negative for oil”
5 months into recession

Brian Westbury on CNBC on, 5/30/2008, “I think that they will take it back mainly because we’re gonna be growing at a three and half to four percent rate in the second half of the year and inflation is not gonna go away, in other words it’s gonna be so obvious to everyone that they need to be raising rates that it’s not just taking it back it’s really they’re gonna have to react or they’re gonna have a problem the other way.
as above

Brian Westbury on CNBC on, 5/30/2008, “I think we’re gonna, I think this market is gonna take off, our Dow forecast by the end of the year is still 15,000.

Brian Westbury on Kudlow and Co, 06/21/2008, “The economy is now coming out of its slow period, our forecast is that we’re going to have three, three and a half percent growth in the second half of this year.”
6 months into recession

Brian Westbury on Kudlow and Co, 09/05/2008, “….between December and June, gasoline prices went up 17 cents a month, it was a killer, people were shocked, and I believe that’s what we’re seeing here, it’s just a shock to the system, we’re now bouncing back, auto sales soared and truck sales soared in August, I think this economy is nowhere near a recession.”
9 months into recession

Brian Wesbury on Kudlow and Co, 1/8/2009 in answer to the question what will the unemployment rate be after the December unemployment report:
probably up to about seven and quarter percent but that’s going to be the worst Larry, this is it, it’s the worst.
unemployment subsequently hit 10%

Brian Westbury on CNBC on, 12/22/2009, “But I still think by the end of next year we will have 5 maybe even 5 and a half percent interest rates because I expect an economy that’s growing at 5, 5 and a half percent.”

After all... All of you 'EXPERTS' out ther ought to listen to OTHER EXPERTS...

"Back in the Day" = a time BEFORE the markets really jumped the shark...

I've said it many times before... "Jackson Hole 2010" was my personal turning point when I finally said this is all a bunch of BS...

How many "trillions" of liquidity (by way of QE2, operation twist, swaps, LTRO) was that again?

Even if you're a "trader"... I think it's useful to be constantly reminded of the farcical nature of what the system has become...

I seem to be the lone voice that provides that perspective...

What is it... Actually? that you're trading...

Please don't tell me it's "fundamentals" or I'll burst into laughter...

I will kneel down to the 'technical' side of trading (because I think that's the only thing that the market (as convoluted as it is) can grab onto...

"technically speaking" the market is probably now fully PRICING IN lunacy (& wherever that leads)...

In my convoluted logic... The thought of PRICING IN LUNACY leads to somewhere that's going to turn a lot of people on their heads...

I have a couple of options...

1. I could ignore it (as most people do)
2. I could be all 'stoic' & hide in the woods
3. I could just say 'WTF'... I can't do much to stop it from happening, but maybe I can soften the landing a bit... & there's no harm in having a little fun along the way...

In the 80's, Kilauea blew lava up about 1200' for many days/weeks, like a shower, then it was just a flow down the mountain for months. Not sure what may happen this time "if" it goes but we really won't be close to the actual spooging lava.

Last weeks hike was funny. Ended up climbing down about 300' of a rock wall near Hilo only to find a very nice black sand beach, but, 1/2 the peeps walking around were nude. Not really the kind of nude peeps you'd really want to take a peek at... lol
Wife must have said "lets go" 50 times. She was holding the camera so no pics :(

That is funny said...

It is funny that even though they were not really the kind of people you want to see all the way naked, it took your wife so long to get you from starting - I guess that is the way us men are built :)

When you mentioned how Kilauea erupted, then oozed lava and now continues to sit idol and how it's eruption was much different than the massive way Mt St.Helens' blew it's top, it seems like a good analogy could be made how they the current markets are like them.

We all know events are in play that eventually will make things blow up, but what we do not know is, when will this happen nor do we know what type of explosion we will have.

And no more nudy beaches for you.....Unless of course you are going to take pictures and share them with us.

I thought this was a trading blog dammit! :-)

Trading Blog said...

Cvienne - It most certainly a trading blog, I am currently trying to get QQQQ to trade me some pictures of people I really do not want to see naked, for a bag a stale Doritos.

If this trade does take place I guess we both lose equally....

Just doing my blog police duties... Carry on then...

CV said...

& I guess I'm a lot like you...

I just come here for the free Doritos...

QQQQ said...

closest I can come to "nude" pics is the coast about 1/4 mile from the nude beach. For the Doritos, I will trade you some macadamia nuts my wife borrowed while on our trip.

Mish - recession or no recession

CV said...

Better hope those Macadamia trees weren't on the sacred tribal grounds of "King Hock-a-lock-a-loogie"...

lol cv, you should get back into trading...

maybe?

You do see stuff many of us don't. (..and you seem to only have 1 personality while doing so)

Market Stats at 1:50 pm ET
COMPARED TO YESTERDAY’S RANGE
34.9% of stocks are above yesterday’s high.
74.4% are above yesterday’s midpoint. (25.6% are below.)
8.0% are below yesterday’s low.
57.1% are inside yesterday’s range.
67.1% of stocks with today’s high > yesterday’s high. (32.9% less than).
16.4% of stocks with today’s low < yesterday’s low. (83.6% greater than).

@qqqq

Now... you know... the "pat" response to that would have been for you to say...

"No... not ON sacred tribal grounds... but they were within "spitting" distance...

I suck at trading... I'm better at writing comedy (&, of course, fiction)...

nude beaches

hmmm

CV,

drink a natty boh every time the dow crosses 13k intraday, you'll have yourself a ball and don't have to trade anything....

CV said...

Want an example of 'suck at trading'? (in my convoluted logic)?... It goes like this... I'm being serious here...

To me... a POV (or stance) on something ought to involve a MACRO theme (something that peers into the future & considers a lot of variables and formulates a "pick")...

Something like... Picking the Patriots to win the SuperBowl before the season even began...

A "trade" (to me), is like a singular event in the larger picture... Something like Wes Welker making a catch or dropping a football on one specific play of one specific game...

As it turns out... Wes Welker 'dropped' a key pass (which would have iced the game for the Patriots at that moment ~ the Giants would not have even covered the pointspread)...

Now if you ask me to make a TRADE on Wes Welker catching or dropping a similar pass... 100 times out of 100 I make the trade that he WILL catch it...

~~~~~
Epically bad 'trade'... & thus, in the future, I will be called an "idiot" for not having picked the New York Giants to win the SuperBowl at the beginning of the season...
I'm still trying to find one sportswriter out there who did... (though 'armchair QB's' who never bother to put themselves on the line with a prediction are plentiful & more than happy to chime in after the results are in the books)...
@ben
Outstanding idea!
When the DOW gets up to 14,000, I'll upgrade to "Stella" (in honor of karen)...
"Stella Artois" aka, in Belgium, as 'Horsepiss'
more proof that, at a high enough Price, 'Caines will Buy anything..
btw, care to read up on how A-B was 'scouring' "Eurolandia", during the '90s, to find 'new' Labels to Import--to fulfill the burgeoning 'Demand' for "Super-Premium"-(Imported) Beers..
@Hof
I don't really drink vodka or hard alcohol, but there are a lot of 'vodka snobs' out there...
Most don't realize that you can basically buy any cheap vodka and run it a couple of times thru a Brita filter & you have premium vodka...
'activated carbon' -- 2. things..
1. is a good point out..
2. it 'filters' out the "S***" that gives people 'hang overs'..
and, the 'Brita' will 'clean up' any 'low-end' Distilled Spirits..
I don't like Stella at all, but I do admit, I'm a vodka snob, as thats my drink of choice
I rock the goose
Vodka Snob said...
Ben - I too am a snob when it comes to my alcohol consumption, as I see it the higher the alcohol content the better the beer, wine or spirit.
Cuz after you have had a couple do your reeeaaaaalllllyyyyyy care about the flavor any more?
Mutt
b22 said...
Mutt,
you might care about the flavor, let me give you an example:
I have a buddy that really loves rum and cokes, we were out once and he was probably 10 deep and ordered up another, he spit it out after the first drink....I asked him what was wrong and he said
All I taste is the Coke
lol
McB,
have you, ever, tried, Platinum, or Luksusowa ?
to me, those 'reviewers' have it 'correct'..
GG, or, esp., Absolut, is a good way to burn 'excess' Fiat..
also, the 'dude' you mention @ 17:47--unless he was being 'gurneyed out', I should _______ hope so !
